Hampton & Richmond 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

The large travelling Dons support for the midweek clash against runaway leaders Hampton & Richmond, where lift wondering how we came always from H&R with no points, let alone the three points that the performance deserved and also wondering how H&R were runaway leaders.

The woodwork came to H&R's defence twice before the dons took a deserved lead and what a goal, Matt York passed the ball into the path of Wes Daly who hit an unstoppable curling shot from way out into the top left corner of the net.

Richard Butler had two chances to extend the lead, but the busy H&R keeper was on hand to stop him and the Dons went in at half time with a one goal lead.

Four minutes into the second half a header by Anthony Howard back toward Andy Little, left Steve Butler having to chase back with a H&R player and just outside the area the two players became entangled and both went down, the ref believed the Butler did it, decided not only to award H&R a freekick but to send of Butler as well for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity even though Andy Little had the ball in his hands.

H&R made a hash of the freekick, but managed to get the ball back into the box where Rob Paris managed to flick the deflected ball into the back of the net to level the score.

It was hard to tell which team had only ten men as the Dons carried on as the had in the first half, Wes Daly nearly repeated his first goal, only to see the ball sail over the H&R keepers head, hit the crossbar and land on the ground just as the keepers backside landed on it.

H&R's second goal came against the run of play, but like Daly's it was a cracker from a corner the fell to Elliott Godfrey on the edge of the box who hit a volley past Andy Little into the top of the net.

The Dons piled on the pressure, but despite the pressure where unable to crack the H&R defence with just ten men and by the end of the game H&R had to result to wasting time in the corners.

AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Billericay Town

The dons started the first of three tough league matches against higher placed teams in Billericay Town, Hampton & Richmond and Fisher Athletic with a one all draw with a solid performance against a large and organized Billericay side that came to Kingsmeadow to attack us rather than sit back and defend.

Once again though a static Dons defence resulted in a goal for the opponents as Billericay's winger drifted into the box from the side and passed the ball into Dave McSweeney for a simple goal

Trailing at half time saw two chances Sonny Farr and Matt Fowler replaced Stefan Wojciechowski and Shane Smeltz and within a minute of the kick off the Dons had pulled level and once again it was from a Barry Moore™ free kick from the edge of the area.

The action went from end to end for the next forty four minutes as both sides looked for a second goal, but a hat-trick of one all draws was the end result and a point a piece was a fair result.

AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Wealdstone

The Dons started off the match attacking the westbank, but with the westbank now sectioned off for away supporters it was the Tempest End which was ram to the newly installed roof that saw Little of the action in the first half and from the start the Dons took the action to the Stones and the first goal chance wasn't long in coming and after a goal mouth scrabble, Steve Butler went close from the resulting corner.

After another few close shaves Wealdstone made a few chances of their own which gave the TEnd some close up Andy Little action.

Just after half time Wes Daly recorded the first goal in front of the new TEnd, a Shane Smeltz shot from outside the box was parried by the keeper into the path of Wes who whack the loose ball into the back of the net to the delight of the Dons supporters.

The joy was short lived as within less than three minutes Wealdstone lobbed the ball passed a static Dons defence and Jermaine Beckford ran through and thumped the ball pass Andy Little.

The Dons continued taking the game to the Stones, but to no avail as the second game in a row ended in a one all draw.

Heybridge Swifts 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

A fairly even and none eventful match was finally kicked into gear in the fifty fifth minutes when Heybridge broke the deadlock, Cliff Akurang went pass Steve Butler then with Anthony Howard in slow pursuit he slotted the ball pass Andy Little, to the pleasure of the local fans.

The Dons then had their best spell of the match, but the Swifts keeper was in top form and produced two fine saves to thwart the efforts of Dave Sargent and then another long range strike by Barry Moore.

Then against the run of play Anthony Howard was slow to remove his hand out the way of a bouncing ball in the box and was panelized by the ref who awarded a penalty, to the surprise of the away supporters it was the swifts keeper that ran the full length of the pitch to take the spot kick, lucky one of our players had been made away that the keeper takes the kicks and always goes the same way straight down the middle, which he did much to the joy of the Andy Little who stood his ground and just gathered the ball up and launched an attack down the right, but to the frustration of the Dons supporters behind the unguarded goal who all shouted for some to shoot from the halfway line or at least launch one of the long balls that the players had been doing so often in the first half, the players decided to try and pass their way up field to no avail.

The Dons finally got the rub of the green in the late goals stakes, when after some good work by Sonny Farr and Wes Daly they threaded the ball to Richard Butler who turned in the box and whack the ball into the back of the net in the eighty ninth minute.

AFC Wimbledon 0-3 Walton & Hersham
FACup 2RQ

Mr Anderson named an unchanged side for the FACup 2RQ match against Walton & Hersham, but it unfortunately it was the same team and performance that didn't turn up for the second half against Redbridge that crashed out of the cup against a solid Swans team.

It could have been so different if Shane Smeltz had been able to convert one of the two chances that fell to him in the first few minutes, but with just ten minutes gone Harvey conceded a free kick on the halfway line for controlling the ball on the touchline and the Swans took the kick quickly and as the ball was sent into the box Mark Cooper went head the ball back to Andy Little, but he put very little power into the header and Nwokeji slipped in between him and Little to knock the ball over the stranded Little.

The Dons did put pressure on the Swans for a short time, but Nick Gindre their keeper was once again there to catch anything sent into the box.

With thirty minutes gone W&H doubled their lead, Michael Woolner brought down a Swans player on the edge of the box, from the resulting free kick Sam Keevill borrowed from BM™ freekick toolbox and sent the ball over the wall and in off the post, leaving Andy with Little chance.

The second half saw the Dons search for a way back into the match, but it wasn't to be and in the eighty ninth minute Gavin Cartwright rounded off a good performance for the Swans with a cracking shot from outside the box that few into the back of the net and maybe go some way to easing the pain of finishing second in the league and cup last season.

Redbridge 0-3 AFC Wimbledon

The dons bounced back from the defeat against Worthing with an easy three nil win away from home against bottom of the table strugglers Redbridge, the game was pretty much over at half time as the dons cruised to a three goals lead at half time.

Michael Harvey back from The Match replaced Sonny Farr in midfield and Mark Cooper continued in place of Steve Butler.

Shane Smeltz got the first of his two goals with a glancing header across the keeper from a Dave Sargent cross on seven minutes and the Dons could have notched up four or five in the first twenty minutes.

But the second goal didn't arrive till twenty nine minutes, after Harvey was brought down for the umpteenth time Richard Butler took the free kick quickly and sent Barry Moore free, he bared down on goal and unleashed a rocket of a shot that left the keeper looking into space and a flew into the back of the net despite the attempts of a player on the line trying to fist the ball clear.

The third goal came seven minutes later a low volley by Shane Smeltz curled goalward, bounced and trickled over the line.

The second half didn't live up to the expectation of a CCL style goal glut, but the dons looked like they had settle for just the three goals and with the FACup game against W&H at the weekend decided to rest the team for the second forty five minutes and Redbridge looked the more likely of the teams to score.

Three points and back to winning ways, but the chance to get a bigger goal difference wasted.

AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Worthing

The Dons sercumed to the first league defeat of the season against one of the strongly fancied sides for the title this season.

Like our old CCL challengers Withdean 1Yr who had links with them, Worthing play a strong physical game and from early on the where causing the Dons defence problems in the box and fairly taking control of the midfield area.

On seventeen minutes their pressure paid off when a corner found it's way through the static Dons defence and found Marc Cable on the far side of the six yard box and he powered his header pass the scrambling Andy Little to give Worthing the lead.

The Dons finally got their game going and came close to equalizing a couple of times and Shane Smeltz was unlucky when his header from a Wes Daly cross flow pass the keeper only to rebound off the crossbar.

Worthing went in at half time one up, both teams made changes Steve Butler was replaced by Mark Cooper as the dons reverted to a 442 formation and started to lay on the pressure in the second half and Worthing seem happy to sit with nine men behind the ball and counter attack and finally after seventy seven minutes the Dons equalised, after Jeff Campbell was brought down, Barry Moore with a BM™ goal sent the ball looping over the wall and into the top corner.

But once again the Dons lack of concentration for the full ninety minutes resulted in Worthing scrambling the ball over the line on eight nine minutes to give Worthing the three points.

Ashford Town (M) 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

The was a suprise name to the starting line up as his named had not even been in the squad announced on the OS , but the nice suprise was that Richard Butler made his return from injury and after only elven minutes it was his goal against his former club that once again saw the Dons take an early lead again Ashford, Butler headed on a Andy Little goal kick and again Sonny Farr was sent on his way towards goal and just as in the first match the keeper blocked his shot only to see it fall to Richard Butler who made no mistake.

Ashford had some good chances to level the score no better then when Neil Breslin who scored the goal on ninthy minutes to force the replay, once again beat Andy Little with a header only to see the ball bounce back off the crossbar and out.

Ex Dons Lee Passmore picked up a booking for a tussle with Richard Buttler and shoud have seen red for late tackle on Michael Woolner for which he only recieve a talking to, the game could have swung ever way with both side coming close and with half time closing in Dave Sargen had the ball in the back of the net for the Dons only for the ref to rule it out for reasons know only to him.

With the second half going the same way as the first with both team coming close, the task was made hard for the home side when former Don Lee Passmore became frusted and was once again booked by the ref and sent off, from there on it was all one way traffic and Barry Moore made it two nil with a BM™ goal as he sent the ball looping over the wall and into the top corner.

Despite Ashford's late challenge there was to be no repeat of the come back and the Dons where through to the next round of the FACup were we will meet up again with Walton & Hersham this time at Kingsmedow.

AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Ashford Town (M)

The Dons once again started out on the FACup trail against Ashford this time it was the Middlesex version.

With Richard Butler still out injuried, Shane Smeltz was joinded up front by Wes Daly and it was Wes that opened the scoring for the Dons, a Barry Moore ball had sent Sonny Farr through on goal he was unable to score dispute to attempt, both stopped by the keeper, but the second fell to Wes who made to mistake blasting the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box with half an hour gone.

The lead was doubled just after the break, when Wayne Finne launched one of his long throws from next to the corner flag that landed on the far side of the six yard box and was headed back in the goal area by Michael Woolner where Steve Butler was on hand to place his header past the diving keeper and into the lower corner of the goal.

Its was all going so well Ashford had hardly had a sniff on goal and the Dons where leading by two goals and even when Ashford did reduce that to just one, when they score from a badly defended free kick leaded to a simple headed goal from inside the six yard box it still looked all one way traffic.

Then with time running out Ashford went all out attack and with ninty minutes on the clock and after a string of corners and with the keeper coming up for the corner in true cup match fasion, his miss head seem to lead to confusion as the ball bounced through to the far side of the box where Neil Breslin sent a looping header goalward and over the out streached Andy Little and into the back of the net and send the traveling fans wild with joy.

AFC Wimbledon 1 -1 Bromley

I could almost copy and past the last match report here, slack defending in the second minute from a corner lead to the ball not being cleared and from close range Barry Gardner was able to poke the ball past a group of player into the back of the net and give Bromley the lead.

Thankfully it didn't take two injuries for the Dons to get into the game this time and even with Shane Smeltz as the lone striker up front the Dons had created enough chance and even hit the woodwork twice and should have gone in at half time with a least a two goal lead.

The second half saw the Dons increase the pressure on Bromleys back four and with just over fifteen minutes remaining a long ball in to the box from the touchline found Wes Daly he was unable to control it under the challenge from a Bromley player, but the ball bounced perfectly in the the path of Shane Smeltz who was running in the area and he lined up to strike the ball hard into the top of the net, but instead scuffed the ball which lead it to bounce off in the opposite direction which seem to catch the keeper out as he reached to late to make any save.

Barry Moore had a couple of chances to give the Dons the lead and also hit the bar, as the Dons looked for the winner and Smeltz was a hand full till the end for the Bromley keeper, but again the Dons had to settle for just one point in a game that should have seen all three go our way.

East Thurrock Utd 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

Not sure if it was down to the early kick off, but for the second game running lack of concentration cost the Dons again this time within two minutes of the kick and again from a quick throw in East Thurrock sent a low ball across the face of the goal and with no ET players around him Wes Daly had plenty of time to control the ball and clear the ball away, but instead he pass the ball back to Andy Little or that's what it looked like he intended to do, the problem was Andy Little had moved with the cross to the far post as the ball crossed the line on the near post.

With the early lead under their belt ET went forward with confidence and made Andy Little pull of a string of quality saves that kept the Dons in the match.

Two changes had to made just before half time due to injuries, first Jeff Campbell was replaced by Sonny Farr and his pace instantly caused ET trouble, then with no other recognized forwards on the bench Mr.Anderson had to reshuffle the pack as an injured Matt Fowler had to be replaced by Anthony Howard and the changes saw the Dons start to get on top of the match.

Not sure what was said at half time, but after the break the Dons where a different team and put the ET defence and keeper from the kick off and with just over an hour gone the pressure final paid off, a quick flowing move from the halfway line saw Wes Daly make up for his earlier mistake as he became the provide of the low cross that found Anthony Howard in the box and he guided the ball into the back of the net , maybe with Butler & Fowler out injured Frankie could become the 6'3 forward we've been looking for.

Once again it was a case of plenty of chances, but none of the finding the back of the net and like Staines, East Thurrock managed to hold on till the end and the Dons had to settle for our second one all draw in a row.

AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Staines Town

The three game winning streak came to stand still with a draw at home to Staines, despite the Dons having the most of the action in both half's.

On seven minutes the Dons took the lead from a Barry Moore free kick the ball was sent looping with a back headed by Steve Butler high into the six yard box, where Richard Butler and the Staines keeper went up together, the keeper managed to get his fist to the ball, but only to knock it back into the path of Shane Smeltz who hooked the ball in between two Staines player into the bottom left corner.

The Dons should have gone in at half time at least two or three up, but thanks to some goods saves by Shaun Allaway the Staines keeper the Dons lead was kept to just one goal.

That's how it should have stayed until half time, but the Dons switched off in injury time and from a nothing throw in on the half way line, while the Dons players set themselves up for the throwing that should have gone our way, Staines broke quickly down the wing and set a cross into the box that was held up well and laid back into the path of Jermaine Hunter who hit the ball first time low pass Andy Little into the corner of the net.

Eleven minutes into the second half Richard Butler went up for a headed with two Staines players which he won, but as he landed his right foot buckled under his ankle and after a fair bit of time he was stretched off with a heavily strapped ankle and clearly in pain.

Staines started to come into the game a bit more, but never really troubled Andy Little.

Late chances by both Shane Smeltz and Matt Fowler could have won the match for the Dons, but Staines held on for the draw.

Slough Town 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

Craig Carley having returned to the Dons, but had to wait to make his league debut as the kick off was delayed due to the ref getting stuck in traffic.

Shane Smeltz was the first to put the Slough keeper to the test with a long range shot that bounced just in front of the keeper and he didn't exactly save it more got him the way as the ball rolled up his body and high up and out towards the touchline, were Ammo was unlucky no to have been able to keep the ball in.

It was the Kiwi Womble that finally gave the Dons the lead that their early pressure deserved, with Slough's making their way towards the Dons goal a fine tackle by Wayne Finnie in the penalty box and then quick pass out to the wing, followed by a pinpoint pass up field by Craig Carley found the head of Richard Butler, who guided it into the path of Shane Smeltz on the edge of the box.

He held up the ball while holding off a Slough player, until Carley had joined him and laid the back to Craig who sent over a cross that Michael Woolner got his head to send the ball pass the keeper, but bounced off the crossbar and rebounded and found its way back to Shane Smeltz on the edge of the box, were he guide a low shot across the path of the out coming keeper into the far corner of the net.

The second half so the home side come at the Dons more and more and Andy Little had to be at his best to keep Slough from equalizing.

In the last minute of the game Wes Daly keep the ball in and sent a high ball from the half way line that the keeper looked to be claiming with easy on the edge of his box, until Barry Moore popped up in front of him a sent a glancing header out of the keepers reach and heading goalwards, finally crossing the line despite the attempted goal line clearance by the diving Slough defender.

Maldon Town 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

With a delayed kick off due to heavy traffic on the motorway, you could have been forgiven in thinking the team where still stuck in traffic in the first half, but that would have taken away the credit from a good performance by Maldon Town, who's quick attacks down the flanks into the spaces left open by the four, three, three formation we where playing and if they had taken their chances could have been two or three up by half time, but they didn't any that half was history after the break.

The Dons changes back into the three, five, three that closed of the Maldon runner, not that they had much in the second half, the Dons coach finally turned up and on sixty eight minutes Ammo had a shot from outside the box that must have touched a Maldon player on route to goal, as when the ball found Richard Butler alone on the penalty spot he was clearly offside, but the was no flag or whistle so he controlled the ball and chipped it over the keeper diving at his feet.

Despite plenty of chances on goal the second goal didn't come until the eighty second minute, a long ball up field saw one Butler serve the other, as Steve hit the ball, Richard raced pass the static Maldon defenders controlled the ball, rounded the keeper and slotted the over the leg of the player on the line, that's Butler service for you.

Finally the ref blow the whistle and the dons returned to the top of the league after being displaced for a day and the five hundred odd Dons went back down the motorway happy and much quicker than they had arrived.

AFC Wimbledon 4-1 Folkestone Invicta

Finally the new season is upon us, the Dons got off to a flying start in the Ryman Premier Division with a four one victory at home to Folkestone Invicta, a double from Shane Smeltz, plus goals from Richard Butler and Matt York saw the Dons perched on top of the new table on goal difference.

After plenty of pressure the first goal of the new season came after just twelve minutes, the move started with Richard Butler turning a man and laying the ball off to Michael Woolner and running up field for the through ball Woolner played into the box, Butler then passed the ball back to Ammo who's shot was fumbled by the keeper into the path of Shane Smeltz for a simple goal line tap in.

The dons continued to attack will Folkestone were unable to mount a single attack, a clear penalty was waved on by the ref after Richard Butler was clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat he was clearly shoved in the back before he went down under the challenge, but the ref who was still halfway up field waved on.

Just before half-time Folkestone finally ventured into the dons box, a ball across the pitch was half volleyed back into the six yard box and Paul Jones managed to poke the ball pass Andy Little.

The lead was restored four minutes after the break with a solo effort from Richard Butler, racing down the flank (with a touch of offside) to run onto a through ball, he cut into the box rounded the keeper and hit the ball in off the Folkestones no.2 on the line and into the net.

Matt York made it three on sixty seven when Shane Smeltz passed the ball into his path on the edge of the D he hit a low powerful drive low into the corner of the goal, then two minutes later Shane Smeltz grab his second running with the ball from the halfway line into the box and hitting the ball pass the keeper for a superb goal to round off a impressive start for the Dons.

Walton Casuals 5-3 AFC Wimbledon XI

Due to a reserve friendly against Croydon being called off a mixer of 1st team, reserves and a couple on trial returned to the ground where we won the CCL title two seasons ago, current CCL champions Walton Casuals have also moved up a division and are look a stronger team than when we last met and should do well in the Ryman One this year.

Two ex dons Craig Carley & Carlo Castronovo have both been playing at Walton Casuals and as players have both improved since those early pre-season matches in July and August 2002, Craig looks quicker and not so lightweight, Carlo looks more capable at the back.

Walton C where two up in thirty minutes, before Amadou Kouman finally managed to break the offside trap and the Casuals defenders never looked like catching him from the halfway line and the keeper was easily rounded and the ball placed into the empty net.

The Casuals who looked more up for the game made in three one just after the break, Matt Fowler pulled a goal back on fifty four minutes, only to see Casuals score again five minutes later.

Matt Fowler grab his second of the night to once again see the dons come within a goal, but as before Walton Casuals went two goals ahead with eight minutes left and get the win their efforts deserved.

AFC Wimbledon 0-1 Dover Athletic

With most other league having already started their season, the dons playing at home in the new look third white kit, welcomed Dover for what was our final full first team pre-season fixture and after the thrills of the midweek match this game had a lot to live up to and sadly it didn't, the dons looked pre-seasoned out and didn't seem up for this game and Dover who fielded a full strength side were well organized at the back allow little in the way of chances in the first half.

Sonny Farr and Matt Fowler came on at half time replacing the Kiwi duo of Shane Smeltz and Jeff Campbell, Sonny provide some well placed crosses into the box that Richard Butler could get on the end of, but the Dover keeper was well placed to deal with them.

Dover scored the only goal of the game with fifteen minutes remaining when a cross from the left form Craig Wilkins in the six yard box and he guided a strong head pass Andy Little.

Amadou Kouman hit a shot late on that was heading into the back of the net, until a deflection set into the green netting covering the Athletics end with it new roof skeleton just waiting for cladding.

There was no escape to victory at the end of this match as for the first since April at Walton & Hersham the dons failed to find the back of the goal net.

Crawley Town 5-4 AFC Wimbledon

Wow that was a football match from start to finish, Crawley in their last match before the start of their season fielded a strong side, but for the first twenty five minutes the dons tore the Conference side apart.

Recent signing from Croydon Athletic Matt Fowler partnered Shane Smeltz up front and the two of them cause the defenders problems from the off and Shane should have given the dons an early lead, his shot was cleared to the end of the box where Stefan Wojciechowski picked the ball up went round one player, turned another before drilling the ball low into the bottom of the net and this after just five minutes.

Three minutes later the lead was doubled when Matt Fowler played the ball to Jeff Campbell who sent the ball over to his fellow Kiwi, who made no mistake from close a range, sliding the ball low into the corner of the net.

Crawley looked shocked at this stage and started to try and get back into the game and could have pulled a goal back straight away, but a fierce shot from outside the box bounce off the top of bar and over, then on twenty four minutes the whole crowd looked on in astonishment as Matt Fowler produced a lovely chip over the keeper from the six yard box that gave the don a three goal lead, and then Crawley turned up.

The first sign of things to come, came on the half hour mark, when Crawley received a freekick just outside the box after last man Mark Cooper had brought an abrupt end to a Crawley breakaway and was luck to stay on the pitch, the resulting freekick just clipped post and stayed out.

Then after non stop pressure Crawley finally pulled a goal back on thirty nine minutes with some quick short passing Crawley opened a whole in the dons back three and Steve Burton hit a low drive into the corner of the goal, then two minutes later he was on hand to get the slightest of touches to divert a freekick pass Andy Little, too bring the score to three two.

That's how it stayed until two minutes after half time when Steve Burton was again allowed plenty of space in the box from a freekick and despite Wayne Finnie's goal line efforts to clear leveled the score with his eight minute hat-trick.

With the home team having all the possession more goals looked a certainty, but it was the dons that could have retaken the lead when Shane Smeltz found the ball at his feet in the box, he slipped the ball pass two players and had two choices go for goal himself or pass to Richard Butler who was unmarked in the six yard box, Shane decided to take the shot himself, but his shot curled just over the top of the bar.

There was a gap of twenty minutes before Crawly made it four in a row, a sweeping move down the right flank followed by a powerful cross field ball that was the right high for stooping Marvin Brown to head with force into the back of the net from close range.

The five minutes later Crawley made it five with out reply, Stuart Douglas picked the ball up near the corner post and set a high looping ball towards the goal that eluded Andy Little and dropped into the goal at the far post and finish off what must have been a miserable return to his old ground for Andy Little, who was substituted four minutes later, but to be fair he there was little (no pun intended) that Andy could have done with any of Crawleys goal.

The dons had the better of the last ten minutes and with five minute's left Richard Butler was brought down on the edge of the box and Barry Moore produce a stunning pinpoint freekick that curled over the box and in off the underside of the bar to round of a nine goal thriller.

AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Aldershots

The dons came up against the first of two Conference side in the shape of Aldershot and where given a stern test from the kick off and within five minutes had gone a goal behind, the dons were on the attack, but a quick counter attack down the wing saw an Aldershot player swing in a low ball that Andy Little had covered until Wayne Finnie stuck out a leg to intercept the ball only to deflect pass the static keeper into the gap between him and the post.

With the Athletics End close due to work starting on the new roof the WestBank was split into two and with a far few of Aldershot supporters in that end there was a good atmosphere between the two sets of supporter and plenty of friendly banter and anti-franchise songs from the Aldershot fans.

Aldershot look to have doubled the lead from a free kick, Aldershots no.6 headed the ball towards goal from close range, Andy Little scooped the ball out from behind the line, but the ref had already blown for a foul by the no.6 on Steve Butler when he headed the ball.

Then from a corner Aldershot where given another chance to double their lead when from a corner Mark Cooper trying to clear the ball nudge a Aldershot player from behind and the ref blow to award a harsh penalty, Dave Lee stepped up for Aldershot and set a weak shot to Andy Little's left, but he made the right choice and made a the save look easy.

Amadou Kouman & Ali Chaaban replaced Shane Smeltz and Jeff Campbell in the second half and the don seem to have more pace and allowed us to get more into the match and just after the house Richard Butler sent a lovely though ball into the box for Ali Chaaban to chase and as he was about to head towards goal an Aldershot player to a swing at the ball, missing and catching Ali instead sending him down for the second penalty.

Richard Butler spotted the ball and like Little the Aldershot keeper guessed right way, but this time the ball was hit more central and bounced off the keepers foot into the top of the net to level the score.

We've had plenty of new forwards in pre-season, but none of them have been up to the skill of Shane Smeltz or the work rate that Richard Butler offers as yet, Butler was causing Aldershot problems as he does with most team we play against and late on he showed some good skills to turn the Conference sides defence inside out before producing a save out of the keeper that was eventually turned away.

All in all a good ninety minutes and once again nice to see away supporters in good voice, but they were out sung by the WestBank.

Ashford Town (Middx) 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

This was a tough and physical match against a team that we could be playing in the 1st Qualifying rounds of the FACup in September.

Richard Butler back at the ground he played at before joining us looked up for it and it was no surprise that he opened the scoring with a solo run that saw him chipped the ball pass the keeper from a tight angle, after that the was little in the way of shots on goal from ever side.

Five changes at half time did little to brighten the game up and on seventy two minutes some sloppy defending gifted Ashford Town (M) an equalizing goal and that was about it, the Dons didn't win for the first time in this seasons friendlies, but then again we have got Richard Butler so it was worth it.

Kingstonian 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

The annual match between K's and the Dons for the Trevor Jones Memorial Trophy, saw the us for the first time in a high division than K's.

Mr. Anderson made a few changes from the team that faced United on Saturday, Josh Lennie starting in goal instead of Andy Little who was on the bench, new trialist Andy Boot started up front with Richard Butler.

The game started and with less than two minutes gone was stopped as the sprinklers had turn on at the Athletics End.

Steve Butler should have put the Dons in front within minutes of the restart with a header from a Ryan Gray cross, but it just went wide, Kingstonian's created some chances but the Dons defence held firm.

With twenty minutes gone Wayne Finnie sent over one of his long throws (remember him from Banstead last year) and Steve Butler rose above the K's defenders and unlike his early attempt this one hit the back of the net.

Richard Butler had to be replaced just before half time after a string of heavy tackles finally did the job.

After the break K's looked a better side and came more into the game, but the second goal for the Dons killed off the match, the second goal was like Saturdays one, this time it was Sean Hillier who lobbed the ball over the keeper into the net as he came out.

The Dons lifted the Trevor Jones Memorial Trophy, two cups in two games not bad.

AFC Wimbledon 1-0 F.C. Utd of Manchester

Not since the Sutton Utd's match had there been as much national media coverage of a AFC Wimbledon pre-season match, Skysports, BBC and a vast amount of reports and photographs from the papers where there, then again this was against the reds from Manchester, F.C. Utd of Manchester a club set up by fans not happy with the way their club was being run....stop I'm starting to sound like that info page in every away program, I'll start again.

On a bright sunny day the Dons welcomed the team, official's and large traveling support of F.C.Utd of Manchester, the United fans from Manchester had the entire Athletics End to themselves and did full credit to their club with the nonstop singing, that gave their players in only their second ever match the together the spur to come out attacking the Dons.

The Dons started with a strong team with what will probably be a near first choice selection, both teams created openings, F.C.Utd looked very strong and will now doubt walk their league this season, still looking for their first goal did make the forwards strike happy as they hit the ball at goal whenever in or around the box, most of the times going high an wide, but then again so did we until Trigger stuck our first goal, so I expect them to settle down once it;s out of the way, but not in this match please.

We finally broke down their defence, after a game of head ping pong, Ammo put the ball into Ricci Crace's path up field, he held the defenders off until he reach the penalty area and as the keeper came out to block him he chipped the ball over and into the open goal.

F.C.Utd's keeper showed he was a good shot stopper and kept the score to just one and at the other end Andy Little dealt with anything that United sent his was.

The ref blow for full time on a very entertaining end to end match, the United fans continued to sing for their team as Michael Woolner lifted the Supporters Direct Cup, then crowd of 3,301 applauded both teams of the pitch.

Hanwell Town 1-4 AFC Wimbledon

For the second of the two games in two days, saw the Dons from the north half of London take on Hanwell Town.

This was not the best of games, the dons did get of to a flying start with a cracking strike by Nathan Stamp, and up front Sonny Farr, Andy Douglas Ricci Crace and Shane Smeltz did caused Hanwell T problems, but in the first half the Dons was lacking the final ball into the box.

Michael Woolner finally showed the forwards how to put the ball into the back of the net on seventy three minutes and Shane Smeltz broke though Hanwell's offside trap to slot the ball home from distance for the third three minutes later.

Hanwell Town pulled it back to three one with a well placed cross being knocked home with ten minutes remaining, before Ricci Crace finished off the scoring on eighty five minutes.

Cobham 0-5 AFC Wimbledon

The first of two games in two days saw a team with players from the south half of London take on one of our old CCL opponents Cobham, polite and friendly fans, not enough cover for everyone when the rain came pouring down, beer sold from cans as the barrels had run out before the game, are the CCL I do miss those those happy days.

Richard Butler should have had a first half hat-trick, we won't mention the one where he had rounded the keeper just inside the box and only had to slide the ball into the empty net (how wide do you want the goals), but he did score on and create the other two goals for Scott Forrester in the first half, who should have had his own first half hat-trick if the keeper hadn't of saved his penalty after Barry Moore had been fouled in the box.

The second half was a bit more even with both sides creating chances, but the Dons were always on top an in the space of three minutes scored the fourth and fifth goals, on seventy minutes Matt York fired home a shot from twenty yards out after a header from Leon McDowall's headed from a corner was cleared and then from another corner Ammo headed the ball down in the bottom of the net to round of another good performance.

Bognor Regis Town 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

On a very hot day by the coast, the Dons pre-season got underway with a solid performance and a two nil victory over Conference South side Bognor Regis Town.

Mr.Anderson took a large side down to the coast, mainly to try out to different teams in each half, the 1st half saw only three players from last season start and it was from these three that the first goal came with ten minutes gone, a long ball up field by Anthony Howard was headed on by Shane Smeltz for Sonny Farr to half volley into the far corner.

Of the rest Barry More looked strong and soiled in defence and Amadou 'Ammo' Kouman up front looked very quick, but his first touch seem a bit off.

The second half saw only Andy Little and Anthony Howard remain on the pitch, joined by Michael Woolner, Ryan Gray and Richard Butler and six new players.

Simon Siobhy who played against us for W&H in the final last season looked another solid defender and Andy Douglas up front had plenty of chances and finally got a well earn goal with the scoreboard clock stuck on ninety minutes (nine more had been played), he worked his way to the edge of the box by the touchline and set the ball looping into the far corner of the goal , two nil dons and not a bad start to the pre-season fixtures.
