Season 2003-2004
League Match

Saturday 8th May 2004
AFC Wallingford 1-2 AFC Wimbledon

Last game of the season and plenty of silverware to be handed out and on hand was a man not unaccustomed to a bit of silverware Mr Dave Beasent, once again Coops won the Junior Dons Player Of The Year award, the Players Player Of The Year was Matt Everard.

The Dons kicked off attackingthe Athletics End and within three minutes a bad header back to the keeper let in Jamie Taylor to open the scoring, but was it too early, the home team came start back at the Dons, but where unable to make all their pressure count and the closes they came was a thunderous strike that left the crossbar rattled.

At half time the Womble Underground Press Young Player Of The Year was awarded to Gavin Bolger and the Reserve Player Of The Year was Sam Elliott.

The 2nd half was again saw the Wallies put the Dons under pressure with the help of a very nippy substitute, it looked like the three games in less than a week and the long hard season was starting to show and with twenty minutes gone a clumsy challenge gave the Wallies a freekick just outside the box, up stepped SSK oops sorry that was last season he now plays for us, but the goal direct from the freekick was just as good it did look like Matt Martin was still trying to organise the wall at the time and could not get over quick enough to save it, but the ref had allowed the kick to be taken so one all and a fairly scoreline given the performance of the Wallies.

With the Dons upping the gears and looking more like the team that had dismantled CCL teams all season well apart from four, this made for an exciting end to the game with both teams having their fair share of play and it took a deflection off Coops from a well hit strike from outside the box by Gareth Graham to beat Paul Strudley in the Wallies goal.

Two one to the Dons, well done AFC Wallingford for giving us another taste of what to expect next season some good close football, both teams went off to raptures applause while some more silverware was laid out on a table in the centre circle, then out came AFC Wallingford to receive their well earned league runners up medals and a team photo, then out came the Champions, 1st up Phillo announced the WISA Sponsored AFC Wimbledon Player Of The Year which went to Matt Everard, well done Matt, followed very closely in 2nd & 3rd was Danny Oakins & Kevin Cooper, then Phillo asked Coop's girlfriend to come onto the pitch as at the start of the season Coops had promise to marry her if he got less than forty one goals in the season and as he had well pass that, there was not much chance of that then, until to her surprise, but no one else's Coops asked Sophie too marry him and after a moments pause she said yes, good luck to the both of you.

Then it was time for the Champions to receive their medals/awards and then Captain Joe Sheerin and Matt Everard went to the canter circle together to lift the CCL Cup this was followed by a lap of honour with both the league and cup trophies on show, what a way to end the season more again soon please, but not to soon as the players look like they need a rest.

League Match

Thursday 6th May 2004
AFC Wimbledon 3-3 Reading Town

What should have been a fairly easy game, turned into a struggle to hold onto the unbeaten run, the Dons were being out muscled in the middle and unable to brake down the Reading Town defence so much so that in the 1st half we had no shots on goal and Reading should have been two up.

Just after the brake Reading took the lead and then on sixty seven minutes doubled their lead, resulting in the instant bring on of top scorer Coops, who within three minutes had one a freekick on the edge of the box, which he placed and hit the low pass the wall into the corner pocket, ten minutes later from an identical position on the Dons again received a freekick and Coops produced the same result two all.

With time running out the Dons pilled on the pressure and from a cross on the right, the ball was cleared off the line by a defender, but only for Coops to scramble it into the back of the net for his hat-trick an to give the Dons the lead three two.

The ref seem too find plenty of injury time and with about six minutes pass the ninety Reading had a corner from which they got a deserved equaliser three all and just enough time to kick off before the ref blow his whistle to the relief of the two thousand odd Dons.

League Match

Monday 3rd May 2004
Raynes Park Vale 2-3 AFC Wimbledon

On a very wet Bank Holiday Monday at eleven thirty the Dons nearly let slip the unbeaten run, the surface of the pitch was not in the best of conditions and the none stop rain was not helping, but both teams had to play on it and from the start Raynes Park seemed quicker to adapt their play and had the best of the early action.

With just over ten minutes gone the Dons received a freekick just outside the box, Gareth Graham line the ball up and tried to curly the ball round the wall, but the ball hit a RPV player and fell into the path of of Matt Everard who calmly side footed it pass the RPV keeper.

With the weather getting worse and the canter of the pitch becoming more and more unplayable RPV started to play more and more long balls over the top and on the half hour mark one of these balls caught Danny Oakins out leaving him stretching his leg out in vain, but the ball had passed him and let in a RPV player who sent in a low ball that was knocked pass Ross Standen in goal.

Ginge had a chances to put the Dons into the lead, but from close range managed to hit the ball over the goal and into the crowd too chants of how high do you want the goal, then just before half time the Dons went behind after a RPV player had picked up the ball on the left and on the only surface of the pitch that the ball moved well forward and skipped pass a couple of Dons before striking a low ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

The 2nd half started with the Dons making a change up front Jamie Taylor came on for Jones Bamfo and with the rain still chucking it down it was not surprising that the usual change of end by Dons supports behind the goal on mass did not happen, but with less than ten minutes gone and a far bit of pressure those that did were treated to a close up of the Dons equaliser from a corner on the main stand side the ball was swung in low and after a couple of swings at the ball it looked like RPV had cleared the the box, but their no fifteen who had just came on head the ball back towards goal and over the head of the player on the line jumping to clear it two all.

With the Dons putting RPV under more & more pressure mainly from the right wing where Lee Sidwell who seemed to have more mud on his kit than the pitch had grass kept on slipping pass the defenders and sending in cross, Lewis Taylor and Kevin Cooper where brought on with about fifteen minutes left, Lewis replaces Ginge in midfield and Coops replaces Ryan Gray and Shane Small-King moved out onto the left wing and it was from this position the SSK reproduced his tapin from Tuesday night picking the ball up outside the box, moving slightly infield struck the ball into the far right corner given the keeper no chance and then setting off on his own celebration run that went across the pitch before circling back towards the goalmouth.

As the ref finally blew the whistle for full time Coops who had some how kept his kit spotless was dragged by his team mates through the mud, turning him the same colour as the rest yellow and brown, that probably answers the question why did Sutton Utd choice those two colours for their kit ? answer saves on cleaning.

League Match

Tuesday 27th April 2004
North Greenford Utd 1-2 AFC Wimbledon

This was never going to be a classic with both teams looking to save players for the Cup Final on Friday and heavy rain thunder, lightning and in parts hail stones the pitch nearly became un-playable, but once the players had been issued with wetsuits, fins& snorkels there was no problem.

The Dons started the game defending the deep end and had a few hairy moments when the balls got held up in the area's of the pitch with some puddles of grass.

On fifteen minutes a corner for the Dons resulted in the 1st of the Dons goals as the came a cross a glancing header by Paul Quinn guiding the ball pass the keeper and notching up his third goal in four games

Four minutes later Shane Small-King scored another of his simple tapin's, your now the ones where he curl's it from one side of the box to the far top corner of the goal, love to see what one of his wonderstrikes look like.

The 2nd half was just as laid-back and the only real action came in the last ten minutes, when an overhead flick by a NGU ended up in the back of the net, this was followed by two goal line clearance's, the 1st was cleared by the head of Matt Everard, the 2nd was more of a scramble, not sure who final cleared.

Finally the whistle blow, the unbeaten run survived a potential very slipper banana skin and both teams seem to have came out unscathed, the only injury of any note was to Simon Bassey who received a knock above the knee hope its not too bad.

Expect a few changes for the starting line up on Friday from both teams, come on you Dons...........

League Match

Saturday 24th April 2004
Chessington & Hook 3-5 AFC Wimbledon

With the kind words that the C&H manager had to say in the press this week this game was always going to have and edge to it, but who would have thought that after four minutes the champions would be down two nil, the 1st goal after just one minute was a brake away on the left that had a touch of offside to it and the final ball into the box took two attempt's to knock it over the line, the 2nd was much the same except the ball fell into the path of Matt Everard and bounce in off his shine for an OG.

The Dons finally started too pass the ball about, but all to often the ball hit high into the box are was over hit down the lines, the 1st Dons goal came from a corner Matt Everard was on the end of it knocking it back into the goal area where Paul Quinn converted it into a goal.

With some strange decision being given by the ref and our players being held it wasn't long before someone went into his book, so when a C&H player fell onto the ball just outside the box cupping the ball into his body with his hand and three Dons players managed between then get the ball out the ref award C&H a free kick and gave Danny Oakins yellow card.

Just before half time the linesman award the Dons a throw in just by the dugouts, but the ref gave it C&H's way which didn't go down well with the Dons bench the ref then ran over to them and after a few words ordered Nicky English off the field.

As the players where heading back to the clubhouse at half-time the ref pulled out his red card and sent Gareth Graham off and before the game had restarted he handed out another yellow card to Shane Small-King.

Andy Sullivan came on and replaced Paul Quinn and Seb Favarta moved into the centre while Sully went onto the left wing and almost straight away caused c&h problem's, with the Dons on all out attack c&h were being put under more pressure, but on 75 minutes they managed to brake away and three men closed down on goalkeeper Ross Standen who was unable to stop the shot from going in.

Less than two minutes had passed when Shane Small King had jinxed his way to the edge of the six yard box and sent in a inch perfect cross to the back post, where Ryan Gray out jumped his marker to bring it back to three two.

Three minutes later the ref award the Dons a penalty, given the c&h player a yellow card, top scorer Kevin Cooper placed the ball sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted the ball to the keepers left and bring the Dons level three all.

As the players went back to the centre circle and scuffle broke out were Shane Small King was clearly punched, both him and a c&h player where dismissed by the ref, the Dons where now down to nine players and c&h had ten left on the pitch, this was evened out two minutes later, when a close range shot was stopped on the line by a c&h player, who the ref then dismissed nine all.

Coops stepped up and scored his 60th goal of the season when he hit an almost identical penalty and given the Dons the lead.

With the clock running down Darren Dobinson chased the ball into the box and with a defender and the c&h keeper closing down on him he taped the ball pass them both and while they tried to figure out where the ball had gone, Dobo has passed them and was after the ball, trapping the ball before it went over he turned and taped the ball back across goal into the path of Ryan Gray to tap in for the Dons fifth goal.

We only need nine men, we only need nine men and your can have a two goal head start, well done Dons another well earned three points.

League Match

Wednesday 21st April 2004
AFC Wimbledon 8-0 Cove

The Dons cruise in 1st gear to another three points tonight with four goals in each half the 1st coming on 15th minutes was a fine lob over the AFCW fan Cove keeper Adam Watts, Kevin Cooper started his record braking night with an excellent curling shot from the edge of the box six minutes later.

The third was a long range strike from Shane Small-King that seem too catch the Keeper out, as the ball went between him and Danny Oakins who was closing down on him to drop into the bottom corner, it as also Danny Oakins who set Coops up for his 2nd of the night just pass the half hour mark.

The four 2nd half goals all came in the last twelve minute, Gavin Bolger laid the ball through to Seb Favata to slot home goal five and on eighty one minutes Coops equaled Eddie Reynolds record with another fine strike for his fifty seventh goal of the season and eighth hat-trick of the season.

Danny Oakins scored the seventh from a corner on eighty three minutes and with five minutes left Shane Small-King turned the Cove defenders inside out around the box, before driving into the area and being brought down, giving the ref no choice but to award a penalty.

There was only going to be one person taking the penalty, even if another couple of players did fancy their chances the crowd only wanted to see Coops take it and so up he stepped to take his place in Dons history with a well taken free kick sending Adam Watts the wrong way.

Hark now here the west bank sing a new kings born today he's name is Kevin Cooper and he broke Eddie Reynolds record to day, Well Done Coops no longer a legend in the making, you are a Legend.

Kevin Cooper 2003/4 58 goals 50 appearance

League Match

Saturday 17th April 2004
Merstham 0-6 AFC Wimbledon

Turning up for Mertsham ground, it was great to see that the club had once again put a lot of effort to make us Dons welcome and that they had also made some great changes to the ground, the new club house look splendid, the pitch was surrounded by solid path and the pitch itself was also in top condition and hopefully the high fence around the ground will help to keep it that way.

Once again Mertsham's chairman Ted Hickmen went around the crowd shaking hands and the cheese rolls where again on offer, but not in such quantity and had all been snapped up before the game had even started.

Before the game start the Mertsham players lined up by the players entrance and applauded the Champions out onto the pitch.

The 1st goal came after twenty five minutes after some fine work by Gavin Bolger he laid the ball off to Kevin Cooper on the edge of the box with his back to goal he turned his marker and curled the ball into the top right corner.

Goal two was just excellent, Jamie Taylor ran into the box holding off two players, before pushing the ball through to Gavin, who ran over the ball and rolled it backwards into the path of Jamie, who slid the ball into the bottom right corner.

Having set up the first two it was Gavins turn to score, the 1st of his two goals was created by Shane Small-King picking the ball up on the touchline he performed a couple of step over's, before passing the ball forward into the path of Gavin who hit the ball first time like a rocket in to the back of the net.

Gavins second was lay on a plate for him by Coops, who held the ball up on the edge of the box before taping it into the path of Bolger who drilled the shot so hard that it went straight under the back of the net.

With it being four nil at half time the second half was always going to a bit more laid back and so it was the fifth goal came after seventy ninth minutes a cross went pass the goal and was going out for a goalkick, but Coops managed to keep it in before dragging it back into the towards goal and pushing the ball into the path of Gareth Graham, who lashed the ball it to the back of the net for his 1st goal of the season.

The scoring was wrapped up with four minutes left, Paul Quinn hit a cross from the edge of the touchline, which curled unchallenged into the far post, not a bad way to score your 1st goal for your club.

Another great day out was had by all at Mertsham.

League Match

Easter Monday 12th April 2004
Walton Casuals 0-3 AFC Wimbledon

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, SAY WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, SAY WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Wow just about recovered from yesterday and it seems to be sinking in, been getting strange looks at work to, great big smile on my face and bursting out in chants of championes, championes, ole ole ole, but hay if you can't do it when the club you love has just won the league when can you.

The day started very early and made my way from Walton upon Thames station, arriving at the ground about half eleven, and with three and a half hours to kick off decided to have a sit down outside the Weir pub, found about twenty other Dons having the same idea or where they like me just waiting to get something to settle the nerves, the Wallies had kicked off at half eleven and just before half time the news that Reading Town had taken the lead was being spread, but as the Wallies had been one down on Saturday and came back to win in the 2nd half, so no one got their hopes up, well not too much.

Went to see what time the gates would be opening only to find a long queue already at the gates. So decided to join, just then news that the Wallies had equalized , that still would put winning the championship in our hands, well the players anyway, the gates where opened and in we went with an even bigger queue still forming outside, inside and with ten minutes to go at Reading people where hanging around Paul Raymond who was in contact with Stilez Wallingfords webmaster at Reading, minutes left could Reading hold on, the game went into injury time, then the Walton PA announced that the Wallies had drawn with Reading, now it was down to the players who had proved themselves more than worthy all season, win and the title was ours, draw or lose and it off to Mertsham to try again and in front of nearly 1,800 eager Dons so no pressure then.

The kick off to the game itself was delayed by 25 minute's adding to the buildup, yellow and blue was everywhere around the ground Walton Casuals kicked off attacking the leisure center end, the pitch wasn't the best but both teams were having to play on it the game started slowly with Walton C have more of the action could they upset the part atmosphere that was building, with just three minutes gone the place erupted as the big man rose above everyone to connect to a Ryan Gray cross with a ™ header, one nil, but Walton were not just going to lay down and they always give us a tough test so one goal was never going to be enough.

Walton had a couple of good chances, but nothing to trouble Ross in goal, with fifteen minutes gone Kevin Cooper (who else) made it two with a low shot that took a deflection on root, but will take it anyway, that also made him the Dons all time leading goal scorer with forty one league goals.

The Dons had a couple more chances and so did Walton, but nether team seem to be able to settle, half time came the buzz around the ground was growing, two nil up with just forty five minutes to go could the boy hold their nerves with all the growing anticipation around the ground.

The second half seem to go really slowly, Walton didn't put the back four under that much pressure and Seb and Gavin seem to have taken control of the middle allowing Ryan Gray and Shane Small-King to go on their darting runs down the wings, on sixty two minutes Coops received the ball outside the box and before anyone had noticed he had unleashed a shot that flew pass the keeper and nestled into the corner of the net and signaling the start of the party.

Thirty minutes left, but the fight seem to have gone out of Walton Casual and the Dons had started to turn on the style, time tick away until the ref finally blew his whistle to a roar from the crowd and mad celebration all round, then it was back to Kingsmeadow where 5-600 fans joined the players & officials to carry on the party till closing time.

League Match

Saturday 10th April 2004
AFC Wimbledon 6-0 Withdean 2000

Defending Champions Withdean where given six of the best match at Kingsmeadow today.

Well that was easy apart from a snap shot early in the first half that produced a excellent diving save from Ross Standen, Withdean never troubled the Dons goal, the first of the Dons goals came just on the half hour when from a corner Matt Everard scrambled the ball over the line, the second was a Coops after Danny Oakins was was brought down inside the box, which Coops converted with easy and brought him his goal tally to fifty this season.

The third was another cracker from new signing Shane Small-King with minutes left in the half he picking the ball up on the edge of the center circle, he dribbled unchallenged to the edge of the box and stuck a low ball pass the W2K's keeper.

The Dons attacked the Athletics End in the second half and it took just of twelve minutes to increase the score to four with another Matt Everard ™ goal (as captured in the photo above click here to enlarge or click the photo for more pictures), raising into the sky to power home at the back post from a corner.

Goal five was the best of the day, S.S-K cut inside from the right laying the ball off to Gavin Bolger with his back to goal on the edge of the box, he turned his marker and struck a curling ball into the top left corner.

With time almost, Jones Bamfo who had been causing the W2K defenders all half taunted them on the edge of the box before passing across to Gavin Bolger who drove to the byline before chipping in a perfect cross to the six yard box, where Coops completed a home and away double header and also equaling Eddie Reynolds league record of 40 in one less game (39), well done Coops.

So Three more points towards the title which IF (football Gods take note I said IF) results go the right way i.e. AFC Wallingford Draw or Lose tomorrow and IF we beat Walton Casuals the title will be ours, kick off is at 3pm and there is a limit of 1,800 at Walton Casuals so get there early if you want to get in.

Semi Final Cup Match

Thursday 8th April 2004
Premier Challenge Cup Semi Final
Coney Hall 0-5 AFC Wimbledon (at Sutton Utd FC)

The Dons cruised pass Coney Hall to reach the final against North Greenford, four 1st half goals killed off any hope for Coney and having a player sent off after half an hour didn't help.

The Dons had to make an early change when Sully went off injured and was replaced by Lee Sidwell, the CH keeper looked very nervous from the start and made some early mistakes the best being when he went to trap the ball on the line, it slipped through his legs and in his panic he picked the ball up, resulting in a freekick two yards from goal and and on the line, as with any close range freekick it ended up going out for a corner after a few shots.

With the Dons in the mood they where in it could have been five or six before the 1st goals, which was a well converted penalty by Coops after a Coney player had done something in the box and was sent off.

The second goal five minutes later was another Matt Everard trademark header, followed two minutes later was another superb strike from Coops, running towards the box he hit the a curve ball with the outside of his foot which caught the keeper off guard and gave him no chance.

Less than five minutes later Jamie Taylor made it four, when he spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him from way outside the box.

The second half was less one sided and Coney gave Ross Standen something to do, but the goal was never under any real threat, Coney Hall had two more sent off in the second half, first their manager then their assistant where both dismissed by the ref.

On fifty nine minutes Lee Sidwell went on a winding run towards goal, then slide an inch perfect pass through to Coops who poked the ball pass the outcoming keeper and complete his hatrick and make it five nil.

With minutes left Coney Hall had a second player sent off, when he stopped a shot on goal with his hands and the Dons where awarded a second penalty and up stepped Simon Bassey, yes Simon Bassey and reproduced another famous semi final penalty and sent it sailing into the night sky never to be seen again.

The ref blow the final whistle seconds later, signaling the start of celebration on and off the pitch and sending the Dons into the final, Woking here we come, well done to the lad's.

Also well done to the Sutton Utd ,both Cubs, the Stewards and the Police for making sure the game went ahead without any problems

League Match

Saturday 3rd April 2004
Westfield 0-3 AFC Wimbledon (at Woking FC)

The day started with a trip down to Westfield ground, where quite a few dons had gathered to the joy of the welcoming Westfield officials who where disappointed that the game was unable to be played there.

The game started with the Dons attack the small end and looked dangerous from the start with Small-King upfront partnering Kevin Cooper, at the back with no Matt Everard, Jamie Angell and Danny Oakins where the centerbacks and Lewis Taylor replaces injured Steve Gibson an right back.

It was from an upfield surge by Lewis that was the start of the 1st goal, he laid the ball forward to Shane S.K on the corner of the box just outside who used his strength to hold of the player before turning him and ran parallel with the goal line before hitting the ball unstoppable across the pitch into the far side of the goal, then ran to the far side of the pitch and gave Ivor a high five.

Westfield defence held it to just the one goal at half time with some good defending.

The second half with the Dons attacking the Big stand and six minutes in Ryan Gray chased down the ball to the sideline before turning his marker back and forth before hitting and cross into the six yard box that the keeper went to claim, but failed and dropped the ball right into the path of Sully who put the ball in off his chest.

Sully could have had a hat trick with a couple of clear chances, but his shooting was off, along with Ryan Gray who also had two close range shots go high and wide, well wide wouldn't describe the 1st as it went out for a throwing and was given a chorus of how wide do you want the goal, from the Dons in the Big stand.

Jamie Taylor, Jones Bamfo and Simon Bassey replaced Coops, Lewis Taylor and SSK late on

The scoring was finished of by Jamie Taylor on seventy two minutes, when he picked the ball up from the sideline and ran in field to the edge of the box, before drilling a low ball into the near side bottom corner.

Three more points in the bag soon became six when news filtered through that Bedfont had beaten the Wallies two one, extending our lead to eighteen points and securing at least second place and also meaning we only need seven points to win the league.

Wednesday 31st March 2004
AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Horley Town

Not the best of performances, but the Dons still ran out two nil winners against Horley Town, for most of the first half Horley had the best of the chances and could have had a couple of goals before with our first real attack resulted in a goal, it was created by new signing Shane Small King , who held the ball up well before laying the ball into the box for George Snee to blast home from close range.

Two minutes later Gavin Bolger scored a cracking goal and from the edge of the box and made the game safe.

The Dons did step up a gear in the second half with Shane Small King making an impressive debut and Jamie Taylor again worrying the oppositions defence the game never looked in doubt in the second half, but again the defence did let Horley through a couple of times.

Three more points in the bag and only thirteen more to win the title.

Southall 0-4 AFC Wimbledon

The next game is away to Southall and should be a tougher challenge, yer right apart from the first ten - fifteen minutes, the Dons dominated the game against third place Southall, the dons opened the scoring on eighteen when Darren Dobinson made one of his penetrating runs on the right then laid the off too Coops in the box he turned two players and drilled the ball low into the opposite corner, through a crowd of Southall defenders and under the diving keepers body.

Kevin Cooper then created the second five minutes later, after taking the ball to the bye line in the box, he turned his markers inside out again and dragged the ball back to Gavin Bolger on the edge of the six yard box, who hit it first time into the top of the net.

The Dons had plenty of chances to increase the lead with Coops and Jamie Taylor linking up well and Sully again put in an soild performance down the wing, the back four where moping up anything that Souhall tried to create.

The second half was all one way with the midfield dominating and laying on the balls through the Southall defense, but the linesman seem very flag happy, but on seventy three minutes Jamie Taylor time his run perfectly and slide the ball pass the outcoming keeper from just inside the box to open his scoring tally in a Dons shirt.

Jones Bamfo came on for Coops and then Lewis Taylor replaces Jamie Taylor upfront and both came close to also getting their 1st goals and both from through runs, with Lewis's shot going just wide and Jones Bamfo being taken out by the keeper as he was about to shot from outside the box.

With the clock ticking down Gorge Snee replaced Ryan Gray on the wing and then on ninety minutes the biggest cheer of the day came when the young defender playing up front ran onto a through ball and scored an identical goal to Jamie Taylor .

Southall once again out did themselves with it's catering, with another very long queue for the curry tent once again and the ground their sharing had some pretty good terraces with a picturesque scene at one, shame that BR & LU both decided too engineering work on the same day which help to reduce the attendance to just six hundred and forty eight, but the four nil win well made up for the three and a bit hour journey.

The Dons next game is on Wednesday at home to Horley Town and no I'm not going to make an predictions.

Frimley Green 1-3 AFC Wimbledon

A solid performance against a much improved Frimley Green team resulted in another three point, the opened the scoring early with just five minutes gone a corner from the left fell to Gavin Bolger at the back of the box who hit a looping volley into the top of the net, Frimley hit back two minutes late when some slack defending let in Frimleys no eleven, who hit a low cross bar pass Matt Martin in goal.

Matt Everard put the ball in the back of the net with a typical ME headed, but was adjudged to have foul someone in doing so, on thirty eight minutes Andy Sullivan ran at the Frimley defenders to the bye line before laying the ball back across the goal where Darren Dobinson was on hand to slide the ball home.

Jamie Taylor make his full debut could have made it three with a fine snap shot just before half time.

The badly ploughed pitch was making it hard for the Dons to settle into the normal flowing passing game and it took until the seventy third minute for the Dons to get the third goal, it was pretty much like the first goal, with Jamie Taylor went pass the Frimley defenders to the defenders before crossing the ball low across the box where after a couple of Dons players had their shots stopped before Coops at the back post pushed the ball over the line.

The next game is away to Southall and should be a tougher challenge.

League Match

Saturday 13th March 2004
Godalming & Guildford 1-4 AFC Wimbledon

The dons started well with Paul Scott chasing a long ball down the center off the pitch and just getting to the bouncing ball before the keeper and kneeing the ball pass him, the ball the continued goalward just beaten a defender too the line one nil with just seven minutes gone, but within three minutes the Gees had pulled a goal back after the dons defence tried to catch a Gees player offside and failed he went on e on one with Matt Martin and knocked it passed him one all ten minutes gone.

The earlier rain had made the pitch rather muddy and this didn't help either team with their passing game and both teams reverted to along ball game, which didn't make for an interesting first half.

The second half was only seven minutes old when Nicky English made the first of two changes that changed the game, Kevin Cooper came on for Paul Scott who was not having much luck with his 1st touch, the second change was to replace George Snee who was getting out muscled in central midfield by the Gee's with Simon Bassey, from then on the tide of play was very much in the dons favor and shortly after Gavin Bolger played a low ball into the six yard box where Joe Sheerin cheekily back heeled it over the line.

Just three minutes later the dons opened up a two goal gap when a Bassey free kick from outside the box was floated into to the six yard box where a powerful header from Matt Everard gave the keeper no chance.

The forth and final goal was a cracker the Gees received a free kick out side our box, they decided to take it quickly, but the ref told them to take it again, their second attempt was charged down my Danny Oakins and he cleared the ball to the half way line where Gavin Bolger header the ball pass his two markers and carried on up field with the ball, he held off challenges from the Gees all the way into the box then just as he was about to be dragged down he squared the ball too Joe Sheerin, who had the simple task of slipping the ball into the empty net.

The Gee's had a long range shot hit the cross bar, new signing Jamie Taylor came on late for Ryan Gray, but didn't get much service so didn't get too show what he could do.

With the game in injury time Joe Sheerin went sliding in for a fifty fifty challenge and stayed down holding onto he's right knee in some pain by the looks of it, he's was carried away to the changing room's, it was reported on the W&WW grapevine that he had twisted his knee, hope its not too bad.

Else where in the CCL, the Wallies could on get a draw away to Chessington & Hook and are now being chased down for second spot by Southall who beat Raynes Park two nil at home, our lead is now fifteen points with a game in hand still.

League Match

Wednesday 10th March 2004
AFC Wimbledon 1-1 AFC Wallingford

With the kick off being delayed for fifteen minutes due too traffic problems AFC Wallingford finally came too town and with our boys produced an entertained and evenly contested match, in the 1st half the Dons had more of the ball, but not many real chances and Wallingford had the better clear cut chances with Ross Standen in goal pulling off some top rate saves from both Spence and Beavon.

The Dons goal cam on the half hour mark and was pretty similar to the one Andy Sullivan scored last season against the Wallies, from a corner on the left side of the westbank Darren Dobinson hit an in swinging ball that bounce through the leg's of Danny Oakins in his usual position for corners and just as Strudley the Wallies keeper was about to claim it Danny flicked at the ball with the side of his heel and sent the ball high into the back corner, minutes later the Wallies could have leveled the score with Spence rounding Ross in goal, but was unable to get his shot in before the ball went over the line.

Come half time the HCAE had to be closed off, due to in be packed too the brim after the usual change of ends, the game started very much in the same way after ten minutes Sheerin was replaced by Coops up front and soon got into the action and was also providing so fine crosses into the box, it was mainly Strudley who had to pull off some excellent stops, this was all the more impressive as he was also constantly under the friendly verbal banter of the crowd be hind the goal, which to his credit he was taking in his stride and seem to be enjoying, he also has to be one of the best if not the best keeper we have faced in the last couple of seasons.

Wallingford started to take more control in the middle of the pitch and again their nippy forwards seem to be causing problems to our defenders and Ross Standen was being more to do than in any of his previous games for us put together including a superb one handed catch from a Wallies corner.

With more and more chances falling the Wallies, the tackles started to get stronger but fair from both teams, this added to the game more competitive, Gareth Graham came on for Seb Favarta on seventy seven minutes and could have score almost straight away when he took a freekick from just outside the box, but once again Strudley was on hand to tip the ball over the bar.

The Wallies scored their well deserved equalizing goal with ten minutes to go, again from a corner the ball came across a Wallies player made contact with the ball sending it looped over Ross Standen, where Ryan Gray cleared off the line, but the linesman had already indicated that the ball had cross.

With minutes left the Dons had a string of corners, the best chance too score a goal can when Matt Everard made contact with the ball send it inches past the the far post, so the first of the AFCW battles finished with honours even by the end, with one goal and point each, but the Wallies must have felt it was more like two points dropped, in their first match against us this season they had a real chance of clawing the gap back to just ten points.

League Match

Saturday 6th March 2004
AFC Wimbledon 5-1 Cobham

Three more points in the bag, but for the 1st fifteen minute's Cobham made a game of it and showed what it could have been like for the rest of the season without Matt Everard, the back four of Gibson, Quinn, Taylor and Oakins looked very unsure and Cobham where able to give Ross Standen in goal something to do, which he handled with ease.

The Dons where also testing Cobham, but not with the usual flowing moves that they had creating all season and the the winger's where unable to get any good crosses in, then it all changed when Lee Sidwell hit a low ball into the box, where Ryan Gray had run into the six yard box and was able to brake clear of his marker and slide the ball home too which Phillo played Hallelujah over the PA and the heavens opened up with rain then hail stones, this gave the pitch the watering it required for the Dons improve their passing and open Cobham up.

The second half started with the Dons again on the attack, but with three minutes gone Cobham silenced the crowd by scoring, then their no five had the cheek to gesture to the crowd in the hard-core athletics end, which he would here about for the rest of the game especially two minutes later when Scotty received the ball in the box, hit his shot against the post, which fell perfectly in the path of Coops on the opposite side of the goal to side foot in.

On sixty seven minutes Coops was also on hand to knock in the third, he wasn't having the best of games, but still managed to score two goals, with Wednesday big game against AFCW, Nick English took off Danny Oakins who had played despite the gash he had received against Chip's on Weds and on came Jamie Angell, George Snee made his debut replacing Paul Quinn and looked very impressive, Coops was also replaced with Jones Bamfo also making his debut for the first team and Cobham didn't know what hit them, he was turning them inside out and could have scored with his second touch.

Lee Sidwell score the Dons forth after Paul Scott had taken the ball pass three or four players too the bye line and dragged the ball back for Sidwell to knock in, them with five minutes left Jones Bamfo topped off an impressive debut, by laying on the fifth goal for Paul Scott, to which the HCAE asked the Cobhams no five what the score was.

Ryan Gray score a perfectly good goal after running in to connect with a Sidwell cross at the far post, but the linesman had judge it to be offside, we are now thirteen point clear of the AFC Wallingford and still have a game in hand, the next game is of course the big one against team at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday and will be our hardest league test of the season, we should be near full strength with Joe Sheerin hopefully fit and Bolger, Bassey and Matt Everard all back from suspension and with young players like Lewis Taylor, George Snee and Jones Bamfo adding too an already impressive squad the future looks good.

League Match

Wednesday 3rd March 2004
AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Hartley Wintney

Not the best of performances and for the first time this season in the league the Dons failed to score, but it's now eight straight league games without conceding a goal, with Matt Everard, Gavin Bolger and Simon Bassey all suspended this was always going too be a tough match against fifth place Chipstead and the early injury to Joe Sheerin (right ankle) didn't help.

Lewis Taylor replaced Matt Everard in defence and showed he has the ability to be a player for the future and also a good stand-in for Matty, Noal Frankum started in place of Bolger, Chipstead played with nine men behind the ball and a lone striker up front and seem to be happy with the draw, but were always looking to brake through on the counter attack

For most of the game neither team created any clear chances probably the best being a cross from Sully from the right wing which hit the crossbar, but there was no one following up in the box so Chipstead were able to clear.

In the second half the Dons put Chipstead under a lot more pressure and came close on several occasions, but Chipstead held firm and on the three occasion got through the Dons defence the final shoots on goals didn't trouble Ross Standen making his home debut in goal.

Towards the end Paul Scott and Danny Oakins became the targets of some strong challenges, with Danny taking about four, before having to get some treatment off the field to gash in his shin from a two footed tackle that went unpunished despite it happening right in front of the man with the whistle, finally Mr. Fish has some competition for the worse ref to well not ref a match.

The game finish with the Dons having a string of corners, but unable to brake down the Chipstead wall, making them only the second time so far this season too get a point off us, but the cost was to us was that Joe Sheerin, Paul Scott and Danny Oakins all picked up injuries, Joe should be back on Saturday, Scotty is doubtful and Danny could be out for up to three weeks, the good news is that Nicky English announced today that he had brought in another player in the form of utility man George Snee, a 21 year old was on Tottenham's books an has represented Ireland at every level from U15 to U20, including going to the U16 World Championships.

League Match

Saturday 28th February 2004
Hartley Wintney 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

Five games, five wins twenty seven goals for and non against not a bad start for Nicky English, but yesterdays game could have gone either way in the first half, the pitch's slope will always make for a difficult game as was proved last year when Hartley Wintney beat us two nil there, added to it the muddy conditions, Hartley Wintney settled the better and should have gone one nil up with a perfectly fair goal, but the ref disallow the goal.

The Dons final stepped up a gear and put HW under some sustained pressure, which finally paid off when Coops fired in a low cross field shot from the edge of the box that went into the bottom corner of the goal, on reading the oracle that is W&WW it looks like Danny Oakins put out a foot, that changed the path of the ball sending it goalward's and adding to the who's goal was it collection.

For the second half Nicky English brought on Simon Bassey for Seb Favarta and replaced Matt Martin with Ross Standen, a giant of a keeper making his debut in goal for the Dons to be fair Matt Martin had not had a bad game and both didn't have too make many saves, unlike the HW keeper who made some top saves to keep the score at just one.

On seventy minutes, having already added no.s four to ten to his book during the game the ref sent off HW no. ten for a second yellow card and five minutes later could have added ex-don Danny Roberts No.3 to his collection when he pushed Coops from behind in the box, for which the ref awarded penalty.

After Weds penalty Ryan Gray didn't seem too want to take it and Coops picked up the ball and didn't let it go, even when Danny Oakins came up too him and try and take the ball off him, Coops stepped up and fired the ball low to the left of the keeper, two nil Dons.

With five minutes left Paul Scott was brought down outside the box and before the free kick was taken the HW no.5 appear to say something to Scotty that resulted in a clash of heads, the ref decided that Scotty had head butted the HW player and sent him off making it ten aside.

So another win for the Dons and with the shock news that AFC Wallingford had been beaten three two at home to Raynes Park Vale , the gap at the top opened to nine points, with three games in hand, but with Matt Everard, Gavin Bolger and Simon Basssey all suspended the next couple of games against Chipstead and then Cobham could be tricky.

Wednesday 25th February 2004
AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Westfield

Not much to say about this match, the first half disappeared just like Dobo's shot on goal which may have come down by now and the only real incident in the 1st half was Joe Sheerin limping off after thirty minutes, hopefully it's not too bad.

The second half was much better and the match was over as a contest after two goals in quick succession the first from Paul Scott on fifty two minutes, when he raced pass the Westfield defenders and slotted the ball pass the out coming keeper, the second goal was scored from an inswinging corner by Steve Gibson that went straight into the far corner unchallenged with a bit of help from Danny Oakins standing in the way of the keeper, which the Westfield keeper and players didn't like to much and tried without much luck to get the ref to change his decision.

Ryan Gray could have made it three fro the penalty spot, but the balls must have had too much air pumped into them as his shot landed somewhere inside the athletics arena, but he made up for it late on making it three nil and bringing our goal difference to plus one hundred.

Not the best performance from the Dons, but still one by three goals and Westfield did their part to keep the score level at half time and didn't fall apart after the first couple of goals unlike some teams.

League Match

Saturday 21st February 2004
AFC Wimbledon 8-0 Bedfont

This game was built up to be a tough test for acting manager Nicky English, well if that's the score we get in tough games be better hire the Ovals scoreboard for an easy game, the first ten minutes were a bit slow with both teams making a few chances and not getting close, on nineteen minutes a poor punched clearance fell to the edge of the box Gavin Bolger and Seb Favarta both had shots on goal, the ball eventually fell to Sullivan who took the ball to the bye line and cross the ball over where Matt Everard and the keeper went up for it and when the ball came down it bounced off the back of Matt and just over the line.

Bedfont had their best chance to pull level when one of their players found himself clear in the six yard box, but his shot caused more danger to the crowd at athletics end than the Lee Carroll, the Dons 2nd goal came from a pin point cross from Ryan Gray on thirty six minutes landing just in front of Joe Sheerin in the penalty spot who hit the ball first time pass the Bedfont keeper.

For the rest of the first half the had plenty of chances to extend the lead, with quite a few falling too Coops, but he seem to be having an off day, we'll he's allowed one now and then I suppose and at half time he was replaced by Paul Scott and it took Scotty just six minutes to score his first after Joe Sheerin was unable to make contact from a cross from Steve Gibson fell to him on the back post for a simple tap in.

The fourth goal came just two minutes later from a cross from Darren Dobinson which Scott flicked pass the keeper and knock in his second, on six nine minutes there was a brawl by the tunnel involving most of the players after Seb Favata was brought down, resulting in Bedfonts captain being sent off.

Danny Oakins scored the fifth goal on seventy two minutes from a Ryan Gray free kick, Danny scored with a close range header, the Dons gave the Bedfont keeper some breathing space for nine minutes before Joe Sheerin received the ball and took on two players to edge of the box then crossed the ball into Paul Scott who played a one two with the post before tapping into an empty net three goals thirty minutes, not bad Scotty.

The seventh goal came again from a cross from Gray, the ball was floated to the back post where Andy Sullivan was waiting on his own to power home a well deserved header for all his hard work during this and the last couple of games.

With minutes left Paul Scott could have got a forth, but the keeper managed to save his shot, but the ball came out to Noal Frankum who unselfishly passed the ball too Ryan Gray who was in slightly better position and he just had to knock the ball into the net, which he did with ease, nine nil and the referee finally put the Bedfont keeper out of his misery and blow the final whistle.

ary 2004
AFC Wimbledon 5-0 Raynes Park Vale
Premier Challenge Cup Q/Final

Well done the Nicky & the lads for putting a solid performance, boy Raynes Park Vale must hate playing us, but too be fair to them they did give it a go and did their best to disrepute our play with some hard but fair tackle's, will apart from the one in the 1st minute on our creative midfielder Seb Favarta, now where have I seem that before.

The Dons took the lead after half an hour, again made by Coops, turning the RPV defenders before laying the ball into the path of Sully, who's shot gave the keeper no chance one nil.

The 2nd goal was a Ryan Gray penalty three minutes later, when that ball bounced up and hit a RPV players hand in the box, Ryan stepped up and put it neatly into the top corner two nil, just before half time Matt Everard went down in our box and after a few minutes was stretched off, thanks fully later in the second half Phillo announced over the PA that it was only a knock on a nerve giving him a dead leg and he was OK and last seem heading to the bar.

The third goal was created by Paul Scott after taking the ball pass two players on the by-line then he laid the ball back to Gavin Bolger who fired the ball into the top of the net, three nil.

The forth goal was set up again by Coops, who is turning into a fine goal maker as well as goal scorer, Coops received the ball and with one touch laid the ball off to Noal Frankum in loads of space, who took the ball into the box and hit the ball pass the keeper with ease and then went off on another of his trademark crazy celebrations run's ending up with most of the team pilled on top of him, good to have you back Noal.

With the game in injury time the Dons got the fifth goal from a cross on the right Paul Scott rose high at the back post and headed the ball downwards towards the goal, where Coops was available to slot the ball neatly home.

Five nil and the Dons are through to the Premier Challenge Cup semi final were we will visit the winners of the Southall or Coney Hal match to be played next week.

After the match AFCW Chairman Kris Stewart read out the following statement informing the crowd that Terry Eames had been dismissed by the club, there was a few boos and abuse from a small group, but the majority of the crowd just listened in silence while reading the sheets of paper handed out with the same statement on and when Kris had finished reading the statement there were a few applauded, mainly I think for Kris having the bottle to read the statement out in front of the crowd that can't have been easy, then everyone either went home or went to the bar to watch the rest of the England match.

Just want to wish Terry Eames all the best for the future and thanks him for all his work in getting such a good team together and taking us this far in our journey and making football fun again, that also goes out to the everyone at the club.

Lets hope Terry and his family feel able to come back and watch us soon.

Saturday 14th February 2004
Chessington United 0-9 AFC Wimbledon @ Leatherhead FC

Poor old Chessington Utd and weren't they poor, but that would be taking away the credit for the performance from Nicky English & the Players, who put the recent off the pitch news behind them and gave their all on the pitch and totally took Chessington apart.

The 1st of the goals came on eleven minutes after some good passing from the midfield, the ball was laid of to Joe Sheerin who feed the ball to Coops, Coops then put the ball into the path of Ryan Gray who hit the ball into the top corner.

It took another eleven minutes to score the 2nd, but in between their could have been three or four more, Sully went on a run towards goal and just as he was about to hit the ball towards goal a defender got in a tackle, the ball fell into the path of Coops who went past one player and hit the ball low pass the keepers to notch up the 100th goal of the season.

Four minutes later Coops back heeled the ball into Gavin Bolgers path who unleashed a shot into the back of the net three nil, before the end of half time both Coops and Sully had couple of goods chances, but neither could convert them.

Half time 0-3 the Dons.

The 2nd half kicked off with the Dons again dominating the match and after six minutes Sully feed the ball low into the box for Ryan Gray to knock passed the Chessington U's keeper four nil, then the Dons won five corners in a row, but where unable to make them payoff, the fifth goal came from a move resulting from a free kick, Sully was brought down near the touchline Ryan Gray took the free kick, Chessington cleared the ball as far as Noal Frankum on for Seb Favarta, Noal passed the back too Gray who crossed the ball into the six yard box, Bolger headed the ball down to Sheerin, who hit the ball home from close range five nil.

Coops got his 2nd and the Dons six goal on sixty six minutes, then Matt Everard put the ball into the net, but was judged to have climbed on a defender in the process and was disallowed, minutes later he did get the seventh from a corner with Danny Oakins hip getting a touch on the line, but the ball was going in anyway.

With only a couple of minutes left Gavin Bolger made it eight with a fine stick from just inside the box and then to top it off on his birthday Coops got the ninth and his hat trick on ninety minutes after rounding a couple of player and slotting the ball between the near post and the keeper.

Next up for the Dons is our local rivals Raynes Park on Wednesday at Kingsmeadow, more of the same would be nice.

Saturday 7th February 2004
AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Ash Utd

England's England's number one, England's number one.

The game start slowly with both teams cancelling each other out, Paul Scott was started up front with Joe Sheerin with Coops on the bench, with Matt Martin released and Ray Merry playing for the reserves, Lee Carroll was again starting in goal and start off well by tipping over a fine shot from Ash over the bar.

The brake through came on the half hour mark when the ball came into the box, the saw something and awarded a penalty and with regular penalty taker Coops on the bench Ryan Gray stepped up to take it and put the ball to the keepers left one nil Dons.

Just before half time Simon Bassey hit the ball back to Carroll, but the pass was under hit and Carroll had to come out of the box to clear, as he was about to clear he slipped over and the nearby Ash player rounded him and then Lee Carroll seemed to have a moment of madness and brought down the Ash forward, after a word with the linesman the ref awarded a freekick to Ash and sent off Lee Carroll.

Down to ten men, only just in front against a team that always seem to cause us trouble and no keeper on the bench in didn't look good, Danny Oakins, who I believe has played in goal before put on the red top and Andy Sullivan was replaced by Paul Quinn to strengthen the defence.

Don't know what was said at half time, bet their was a few xxxx's in there somewhere, from the kick off Ash didn't no what hit them, every ball was challenged bet two and sometimes three Dons players, Bolger and Seb where all over the pitch and Danny Oakins in goal had hardly had a touch of the ball, but when he did he looked more than capable in goal, he even pulled off what Lee Carroll did in launching the ball down field landing in the six yard box.

With half an hour gone in the second half the Dons received a free kick on the right as it was swung in three Ash players and Matt Everard went up for the ball and only one head got too it, blasting it past the keeper two nil, we got Matt Everard, we got Matt Everard.

In the last ten minutes Danny Oakins pulled of a couple of fine saves and Darren Dobinson on for Scott had a good strike saved by the keeper.

Danny Oakins is our mate he hates Palace.

AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Banstead

Two mistakes by the keeper cost us a place in the next round against the K's, the fact that the Dons had total controlled the game against Banstead from the Rymans league was at least a good sign for the future and to be fair to Carroll if a couple of the many chances we created had gone in the game would have been rapped up with easy.

The Dons took the lead on thirty six minutes after Gavin Bolger had beaten the offside trap and reach the bye line before squaring the ball to Joe Sheerin, who knock it in from close range, Banstead equalised against the run of play, after soaking up another of our attacks they broke to the halfway line, where one of their players was fouled, from the resulting freekick Lee Carroll completely missed the ball and went straight through to a Banstead player to head in one al.

Paul Scott replaced Joe Sheerin and again put in a good performance, but despite all the chances the ball would not go in and when it looked like going in the Banstead keeper who was having a blinding game would be there to stop it.

With time running out and extra time looming, a Banstead player pick up the ball just inside our half and moved forward not at pace, but no Dons play's seem to want to make a challenge and just as a call from the crowd of "don't back off him" went up he knocked the ball goal wards from out side the box again not with any pace, but just as it looked like Carroll had it well covered the ball bounced in front and then over him two one.

We did have a couple off corners after that, but they were easily cleared and we where out off the cup.

Saturday 31st January 2004

AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Feltham

With Paul Scott and Joe Sheerin both falling foul of the flu, the Dons where left with a striker problem until Ali Russell made a surprise return up front for the Dons.

Strong winds and non stop rain lead to a dyer game with both sides unable to to control the ball for more than a couple of passes and anything in the air just went out, the best move in the 1st half fell to the Dons, when Harvey, Bolger and Gray linked up with a string of passes that left Ali Russell free on the left, but his cross caught the wind and went out for a goal kick.

On thirty five minutes Coops went to turn a Feltham defender in the box, but the Feltham defender held onto Coops with one arm and pulled him down for a penalty, Coops stepped up to take it hitting it low to the keepers right, but he was able to get own and parry the ball away.

HT 0-0

With the Dons attacking the westbank and the strong wind behind them, Feltham where struggling to get out of their own half for most of the second half and the Dons where able to make the advantage pay with plenty more chances, Noal Frankum came on for Seb Favata with twenty minutes of the 2nd half gone and the midfield started to spread the ball around on the deck, which is when we look most dangerous when coming forward and within minutes the Dons broke down the flank and an in swinging cross from Ryan Gray found the head of Gavin Bolger who from six yards out drove the ball into the top of the net 1-0.

Darren Dobinson replaced Ryan Gray just after the goal and five minutes later Dobo nearly score straight from a corner, but the keeper punched the ball over, from the next corner the ball went out for a goal-kick, as the Feltham keeper launched the ball up field the wind caught hold of the ball and sent it spinning back toward the keeper landing just over six yards from where he had kicked it from, to the cheers of the westbank.

With time running out the Dons defence went into suicide mode, with Lees Carroll having given both Harvey and Bassey almost impossible to control balls, both seem to want to test Carroll, first Bassey hit a ball right across our own box, where Harvey headed back into the box and after a few attempts the ball was cleared.

Very late on Ali Russell had a shot blocked, but no more goals came and game finish one nil Dons, with only the Bedfont v Frimley Green (2-0) game surviving the weather today the Dons now on seventy points have opened up a six point gap at the top over AFC Wallingford with three games in hand and Bolgers goal brought the goal tally for the season to ninety six, next up for the Dons are our 1st competitive opponents from a higher division, on Tuesday we take on Banstead in the Surrey Senior Cup kick off 7.45pm.

PC Cup 4R Match

Tuesday 27th Jan

Premier Challenge Cup 3rd Round

Chipstead 1-1 AFC Wimbledon (1-3 AET)

In freezing conditions what's the betting the game against Chipstead would go into extra time, playing at Chipstead ground instead of the usual Whyteleafe's ground made for an interesting journey down the dark country roads, but at least the locals where friendly, even got some good luck's and Fxxx Them comment's from some Spurs supporters in the local White Hart public house.

Chipstead have a good playing surface which made for a goods game, the Dons started slowly, well forty five minutes after Chipstead anyway and could have been out of the game if it had not been for some poor finishing and some good saves by Lee Carroll in goal, but the Chip's goal came on twenty one minutes from a mistake by Carroll who went to control a backpass, but managed to let the ball go under his foot and the quick Chips striker ran pass him and slide the ball into an empty net.

The second half was a total different Dons and with only six minutes gone the Dons where back on level term's Gavin Bolger received the ball inside the box, but the Chip's keeper made him go away from goal and while going down for the ball, brought Gavin down giving the Ref no option apart from to award a penalty, which Kevin Cooper took sending the keeper the wrong way.

With seventy minutes gone Terry Eames replaced Gareth Graham with our new signing Noal Frankum, Chipstead by this point where not in the game and there looked to be only one winner, but could the goal come before the end of normal time, Paul Scott who was having his best game so far and is steadily improving the more he plays could have made it two after taking the ball almost the length of the pitch only for the keeper to pull of a good save and Paul did have the ball in the net with a solid header from a cross from Darren Dobinson, but was judged off side by the linesman, Sully and Gibson came on just before full time replacing Paul Quinn and Simon Bassey.

Extra time and with the Dons still coming forward in search of the winning goal, it looked like Chipstead would have settled for penalties, with time running out in the 1st half of extra time after a couple of cleared chances from Coops and Matt Everard, Paul Scott hit a low shot from just inside (picture above) the box that went passed three Chipstead and the keeper diving low managed to get his hand to it, but it was hit so strong it just bounce over his hands and into the net two one.

With Chipstead now chasing after an equaliser the game went from end to end, with Chipstead having the better chances and could have got the needed from a long range shot, but Lee Carroll managed to tip the ball onto the crossbar, but with the Chips on all out attack they where leaving gaps at the back and from a breakaway Darren Dobinson went on one of his dinky run down the left, just as it look like he would run out of space he pulled the ball back looked up, saw no one in the box and the keeper off his line and hit a sweet curling ball into the far top corner of the net, what a way to finish a game off.

Full time and the Dons where through to our 1st ever Quarter Final, were we get to play with Dobo's old team and our local rivals Raynes Park this game will be played on Tuesday the 17th of February at Kingsmeadow, kick off 7.45pm with tickets prices at a reduced cup rate of £8/£4/£3 in the Main Stand

League Match

Saturday 24th January 2004
Farnham Town 0-4 AFC Wimbledon

The Dons settled back into the winning grove win an easy win over Farnham Town, after a five minute delay the game got under way on a very difficult surface, with the dons went on the attack from the off kicking towards the bank end, with Seb Favata and Gareth Graham out with injuries the dons started with Micky Fernadez in midfield making made his debut and Simon Bassey at right back for the injured Steve Gibson.

The 1st of the four goals came on 22 minutes Coops had went down the left and put a low ball in for Joe to knock home from six yards out and end his goal drought, the 2nd goal came from the left again but this time it was a corner floated into the box to find the head of Matt Everard giving the keeper no chance and good to see Matt scoring goals again.

Plenty of chances came before the third goal, but the Farnhams keeper kept the score down, until the sixty first minute when Paul Scott on for Joe up front rounded the keeper and finished well hitting the ball out of the reach of the defender on the line.

The fourth was another from the goal machine that is Kevin Cooper to round of a solid performance and get the Dons back to winning ways and with AFC Wallingfords losing for the 1st in the league since November the gap at the top once again opened up too three points and Southall moved up to third after their win against Ash and Chipstead's who are our next opponents in the cup on Tuesday lost four two to North Greenford Utd.

Saturday 17th January 2004
F.A. Vase 4th Round AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Colne

Like a wise man once said "the match is history so stop sulking and put a match-report up ",so well here goes.

From the kick off Colne where on the attack and could have gone into an very early lead after a header hit the bar, they seem to getting to the ball first every time and on eleven minutes Colne took the lead, when a ball into the box was not cleared the Colne no.9 knock the ball the ball goalward from close range and despite the goal line clearance attempt by Less Sidwell the ball went over the line to silence the crowd.

Against the run of play the Dons responded well and pulled level within two minutes after Joe Sheerin was brought down on the edge of the box the ref awarded a free kick, Ryan Gray stepped up and hit the ball low and round the wall and the diving Colne keeper.

With thirty four minutes gone Colne had an attack down the left wing as the Colne player got into the box rather then go pass a defender and head for goal he went down looking for a penalty, as they had been dropping like stones at every touch throughout the game the ref waved play on and with the ball having gone out the ref awarded Colne a corner instead of a goal kick to us.

From the corner the ball was hit into the box where three unmarked Colne player where lining up to head the ball home and take Colne back into the lead.

The second half started much better for the Dons, attacking the westbank end and the 3,0215 crowd in good voice, even the mainstand and the JS stand were joining in to make a great cup atmosphere, the Dons were now getting into the box and also shooting from distance, Danny Oakins hit a shot from 30yards out that just went wide and Kevin Cooper hit a low drive that missed the post by and inch.

Colne where still a threat at the other end and more to a point our back five where looking very vulnerable, from a corner Matt Martin let a ball drop through his hands and the defence just managed to clear the ball away.

The best move of the game was created by the Dons, rather than long ball it up field as we had been doing most of the game, we keep the ball on the deck and passing it around taking it up field Harvey passed it onto Joe, who laid it off to Coops who let rip only to see the keeper dive through the and pull of a great save.

Terry replaced Sidwell and Coops with Gareth Graham and and Paul Scott, Graham didn't take long to get into the game and had a shot go just wide and Paul Scott seemed to be able to shrug off his marker a bit better than Coops had been able to and put in his best performance so far.

With the Dons throwing every one forward, Colne broke free with a two on one on the keeper and having round the keeper, the Colne striker laid the ball off to his team-mate who had an open goal, but hit the hard and high into the athletics end.

With time running out Colne where reduced to ten men after Colne's No.3 was sent off and left the field very slowly, but despite the extra man the Dons could not get the goal to take it into extra time.

The ref blow his whistle after three or four minutes of added on time, and we where out of the Vase.

What happened after the match has been widely reported already and will be handled with by the club's and the F.A, what I will say is well done to the stewards for their prompt actions.

Time to concentrate on the league now that AFC Wallingford have drawn level on points a good win away to Farnham Town is vital, Come On You Dons.

League Match

Saturday 10th January
Sandhurst town 2-2 AFC Wimbledon

Two points dropped after a two goal half time lead was wiped out by some poor defending by the Dons and strong 2nd half performance by Sandhurst.

The Dons took the lead on twenty one minutes when an in swinging corner went through the keepers hands and was knocked over the line by Sandhursts number eight, the second goal also started as a corner, but ended as a penalty, when the ball was swung in the keeper pushed Danny Oakins from behind while trying to move him out the way and Danny went down leaving the ref no option but too give a penalty, with Coops being rested Andy Sullivan stepped up and hit the ball to the keepers left two nil.

The Dons should have had three or four more goals in the 1st half, the best chance going to Paul Scott when the ball to him clear at the back rather than just hitting the ball he tried to lob it into the open net only to hit the top of the crossbar.

In the 2nd half neither sides had any real shots on goal until Paul Scott broke free down the left and his cross found Seb Favata inside the six yard box with an open only to ballooned the ball over the goal "taxi for Seb", this and the change in formation seem to give Sandhurst the extra belief they need to attack and on sixty six minutes Sandhust broke free and their Marc Boyle round Matt Martin in goal, before hitting the ball into an empty net.

Deja Vu two one up away to Sandhurst and holding on while waiting for the ref to blow his whistle, but unlike that historic day this Dons team with five main changes from the normal 1st team and playing on a very muddy pitch against probably the best team we've played in the CCL so far this season where unable to hold onto the lead and after several near misses Sandhurst got the goal they very much deserved from a freekick, the ball went into the box and was knocked over the line from close range by Marc Boyle again deep into injury time.

Final score 2-2 well we where never going to win ever game and if we had to drop the points somewhere at least it was to Sandhurst, who once again gave us a warm welcome down at Bottom Meadow.

League Match

Wednesday 7th January 2004
AFC Wimbledon 5-2 Walton Casuals

Walton Casual kicked off attacking the Athletics end and from the start looked dangerous down the wings the Dons had hardly got into the game when on eleven minutes Walton took the lead from a free kick swung in and then headed in by Fennell, leaving Kingsmeadow silent apart from a small pocket of Walton fans.

This gave the Dons a kick up the backside and they all stepped up a gear and started to push forward more, on 36 minutes after much more pressure on the Walton C defence the equaliser arrived after a through ball from Joe Sheerin found and set Seb Favata free to run at the defenders he then laid the ball into Kevin Coopers path, who then hit the ball first time into the back of the net.

The Dons 2nd goal after Coops has taken the ball into the corner and had been brought down and from the free kick the ball was hit into the box and after a couple of shots on goal Harvey knock the ball home.

Unlike most of teams Walton didn't fall apart they played some good football and put the Dons under pressure in stages in the 1st half and gave both Harvey and Bassey some worrying moment, Bassey also gave the fans some worrying moments and picked up a yellow card after a second sliding tackle on the touchline that took more of the player than the ball and could have been sent off for a third tough challenge just before half time.

The 2nd half started with Dobinson on for Harvery at left back and with minutes, from the start of the 2nd half the Walton Casuals tackles started to fly in a bit and Bassey seemed to be a bit of a target with one tackle going right through him, but credit to him, unlike last season he didn't retaliate he just got up and got on with the game and made some good passes and tackles in the 2nd half.

A third goal nearly came in the shape of an own goal from the Casuals captain when he went to clear a cross the ball went goalwards at some pace and only just wide to his relief

The Dons third goal finally did come in the 61 minute and was another stunner from that man Coops with his back to goal just outside the box he turned and passed the defender and hit the ball into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance and opening up a two goal lead, but Walton continued to put the Dons defenders under pressure and within five minute's scored their 2nd when a ball from corner was only cleared to the back of the box an unmarked Casuals player let the ball drop before hitting the ball low into the far corner.

Coops made it four two on 72 minutes after a shot on goal by Gavin Bolger was only parried away by Danny Wheeler and fell to the feet of and unmarked Coops with an open goal in front of him and easier finish to a hat-trick would be hard to find and in it went, that was also his 2nd HT in two games and his 2nd against Walton Casuals with one last season, it was also the hat-trick of hat-tricks against Walton Casuals as Lee Sidwell had also got one against them last season, Danny Wheeler must hate playing against us.

Coops and Sheerin where replaced just after that with Paul Scott coming on and then the long awaited return from injury of Gareth Graham was greeted with a standing ovation and then with his 1st touch he did a nice bit of showboating, move over Joe Cole Ginge is back and then moments late the 2,460 crowd held their breath as Ginge went into a tough 50-50 challenge, but to everyone's relief up he popped and then to top it off he came close to scoring, but his shot was knocked away by the keeper.

Paul Scott finished off the scoring when he latched on to a through ball from Ryan Gray and slotted the ball home underneath the approaching keeper all in all not the best performance, but another three points, which leaves us eight points clear of both Chipstead and the new 2nd place team AFC Wallingford with five and two games in hand respectively, next up is the return to Bottom Meadow where our life in the CCL began with our away fixture to forth place Sandhurst.

Cup Match

Saturday 3rd January 2004 F.A. Vase 3rd Round
BAT Sports 0-1 AFC Wimbledon (at Kingsmeadow)

Well we finally got to play the 3rd round FA Vase game against BATS, the game being switched to Kingsmeadow after two washout's at Bashley, a crowd of 2,763 turned out to watch the match with the Dons playing in the white, as BATS play in a blue and yellow kit started off attacking the westbank end and it was mainly attacking.

BATS did have a few attacks, but nothing to worry Matt Martin back in goal, the Dons seem to be having corner after corner in the 1st half, but BATS keeper and defence where able to claim or clear each time, the Dons finally broke through the BATS defence from a freekick on the left, Joe Sheerin got his head to it knocking it down to Coops, whose shot was cleared to the edge of the six yard box where Gavin Bolger drilled home the ball to take the lead with thirty six minutes gone.

The Dons had another couple of chances to extend the lead Matt Everard headed the ball just over and Coops had another shot blocked and Danny Oakins was brought down in the box, but no penalty was given, towards the end of the half the game started to get a bit physical and gave us a glimpse of how the 2nd half would go.

In the 2nd half BATS switched to a four, three, three formation and this seemed to give them more chances up front, but in going forward it left holes for the Dons to attack through, but as in the 1st half their keeper was able to claim most of the crosses Coops and Joe where replaced by Paul Scott and Darren Dobinson, Danny Oakins was lucky not to get sent off late on for a clash on the line.

BATS seem to throw everyone forward for a couple of last minute corners, even the keeper went forward for the second one and had to scramble back in a hurry as the Dons broke down the right wing, but neither side looked like scoring in the second half and so it finish nil one to the Dons and set up a fourth round tie against Colne from the Northern Premier League the game will be a home tie at Kingsmeadow to be played on the 17th January, this means the league match against Horley that Saturday will have to be rearranged.

League Match

Saturday 27th December
AFC Wimbledon 7-0 Raynes Park Vale

The day of the big local derby with nearly four thousand packed into Kingsmeadow, meaning the game was delayed by 15th minutes to allow all inside safely, the Dons started attacking the westbank and on two minutes received a corner on the left corner, the ball was knocked in low and managed to get through a pack of players to the far side of the box, where Matt Everard at knock it in with a bit of a deflection one nil.

After that early brake the Dons let Raynes Park settle down for the next twenty minutes before Lee Sidwell picked the ball up on the edge of the box from another crossfield ball from Coops and passed a couple of defenders before drilling the ball into the top corner, two nil, the third goal came on thirty four minutes after some fine work by Coops and Harvey on the left resulted in Coops getting to the bye line and dropping a perfect ball back into the path of Harvey just inside the box who's contact with the ball was so soild, that it left the keeper with no chance and had hit the back of the net even before the "Boom" that comes from the Westbank whenever the balls near Harvey had finished.

The Dons made it four nil on the next attack which came straight from the kickoff, no not the 2nd half kickoff the one straight after the third goal, the got the ball off Raynes Park went straight on the attack and Coops score the forth, four nil at half time and only one goal needed to match our previous goal tallies against Raynes Park last year.

With the crowd being asked not to make the usual half time end changes the crowd settled in for the second half, the Dons had plenty of chances in the 1st fifteen minutes before Coops once again supplied a perfect cross from the right for Ryan Gray to side foot in from six yards out and if to say anything you can do I can do better, Ryan made the next to goals for Coops the 1st being a cross from about ten yards inside Raynes Parks half to the head of Coops and he sent the ball low into the bottom corner six nil with fifteen minutes to go.

The Dons could have had two or three more in between the six and seventh goals with Sully putting two shot over the bar and even Coops a good chances, then with six minutes left Ryan knocked another fine ball from nearly the same spot to the far side of the box, where Coops hit the ball low into the bottom corner for his hat-trick then went to the wall at the back of the goal and sat down to accept his well earned applause.

Raynes Park had their best chance late on when Danny Oakins brought down a RPV forward and it looked like the ref would give a penalty, even the RPV keeper jumping for joy, but after speaking to the linesman the Ref gave a freekick on the edge of the box, so not a good day for the RPV keeper all round and the freekick was sent low and wide of the goal.

Final Score Seven Nil, three more points and twenty out of twenty win's so far this season and eighty four goals to fourteen, not a bad way to finish the year.

League Match

Tuesday 16 December 2003
Horley Town 2 -4 AFC Wimbledon

The Dons started badly against Horley Town at the "The New Defence" or to be more fair Holey came at the Dons from the start and we didn't start playing until we were one nil down, on fifteen minutes a nice pass from Sidwell across the box to their striker who was on his own apart from Lee Carroll in goal, the Horley forward just had to choose which side of the goal to put it, which he did to the joy of the 200-300 home fans around the ground.

Then minutes later Horley again broke through the middle, but this time Lee Carroll pull of a good save to keep it at one nil.

Clinton Moore made his starting debut for the Dons, with Joe Sheerin being rested for the Vase game on Saturday, Clinton started up front with Kevin Cooper and once it was Coops who scored the first goal and as per normal, with his back to goal he turned one player and curled the ball into the far corner just hitting the bar on its way in.

The second goal was almost identical but more central and came ten minutes later when Seb Favata pick up the ball and from about forty yards out hit a screamer off the underside of the bar giving the keeper no chance.

Micheal Harvey who had been receiving some stick from a small band of locals lad and lasses during the 1st half score the third (his 2nd in two games), this was almost identical to his goal against Ash, but for it being nearer the edge of the box, he then went to see what the locals had to say about that, but they had all gone quite.

Half time, frostbite anyone or just the half price adverts/programme's.

The second half began, with some people preferring to watch the game in the warmth of the big new bar/stand, with hardly any seats out of the big window, the mist rolled in across the field like a 60's horror movie.

Both teams traded chances, Holey looking the more eager to get forward and the Dons just trying to get through the match without picking up any injuries for the cup game.

With just under ten minutes to go the Dons made it four one, from a corner on the right the ball came over high and just out of reach of the jumping keeper and fell down into the path of Clinton Moore who volleyed home for his 1st goal for the Dons.

Horley had a couple of chances late on, before pulling back to four two with six minutes remaining with a well deserved (mainly for keeping at us for ninety minutes) goal, which was down to some bad defending by the Dons, the game was rapped up by then, but it gave the locals a bit of Xmas cheer.

Full Time, three more point and we are top of the league for Christmas, not a bad present from Terry and the Boys :-)

League Match
Saturday 6th December 2003
Ash Utd 3-5 AFC Wimbledon

After the late winner in a tough game on Wednesday against Ash, this looked like being no different and from the start Ash where again a solid wall at the back, but where not attacking as much.

Despite that the Dons come close to taking the lead on three or four occasion's including a clearance off the line from a Kevin Cooper strike after he had round the keeper, the first came on twenty-nine minutes when from an Ash corner Darren Dobinson starting in place of an injured Gavin Bolger broke from the box and ran up to the halfway line, before laying the ball off to Joe Sheerin wide right, who then played the ball across field to an unmarked Ryan Gray who had only to knock it in from close range.

Ash drew level with four minutes remaining in the half after Lee Carroll made a total hash of a clearance up field which hit an Ash player and landed at the attackers feet and he stuck the ball into an empty net.

Coops restored our lead on seven minutes into the second half with a similar attack that had led to the goal line clearance, but this time there was no stopping the shot from the Dons top scorer.

The lead only lasted eight minutes before Ash equalised from the penalty spot after Steve Gibson had brought an Ash striker in the box, then within a minute Ash had scored again to go three two up, the same score as last seasons match at Young's Drive.

This season the team has proved that they can dig in a get results when needed and today was no different, on sixty eight minutes Harvey picked up the ball wide on the halfway line and steamed down the line, then turned in field and hit a low drive low into the bottom corner between the post and the keeper, from that point there looked like being only one winner.

Six minutes later after some good moves Danny Oakins hit a ball from forty yard out and hit the back of the net to once again give the Dons the lead, Clinton Moore came on from Joe Sheerin just after that to make his debut for the Dons and could have had a goal with his first touch, hitting the bar from a corner.

Coops made the score five three when he slotted home a perfect penalty on eighty five minutes an help retain our one hundred percent record this season, just before the end Ash where reduced too ten men after a small scuffle between a bunch of the players resulted in one of their players being sent off.

The ref blow his whistle, we now have fifty four points and are five points clear of Chipstead with four games in hand, next up is our trip to Bashley next Sundays to play BATS Sports in the third round of the FA Vase, lets hope for more of the same but with less of the goals against.

Cup Match

Wednesday 3rd December 2003
Ash Utd 0 -1 AFC Wimbledon

A last minute goal from Ryan Gray, secured the win for the Dons and up a match against Banstead in the next, it wasn't the best performance by the Dons and Ash could easy have been two or three up by half time if it had not been for Matt Martin in goal.

The 2nd half was a better display by the Dons just , but every attempt on goal went just wide or over and most of the crosses went straight to the keeper.

With normal time running out and extra time looming on a very cold night Ryan Gray picked the up on the six yard box, went round a couple of players and knock the ball past the keeper and made sure no extra time was need.

Next up is Ash again this time away at their ground, lets hope for a better performance.

League Match

Saturday 29th November 2003
Cove 0 -2 AFC Wimbledon

The dons dug in on a wet and muddy pitch at Cove to make it seventeen wins out of seventeen and move three point's clear of Chipstead who lost at home to Walton Casuals and we still have four games in hand.

To be honest Cove had the better chances to begin with and could have been one or two up with better finishing, on 34 minutes Gavin Bolger got hold of the ball on the halfway line and decided to go straight for goal, as he got near the box he seem to lose control of the ball pushing just out of his reach and giving a Cove defender the chance to clear, but as he struck the ball it hit Gavin and flew over the out coming keeper and into the corner of the goal.

Both team's where having trouble settling into any sort of rhythm, which was not help by a whistle happy ref who seem to have forgotten his cards and the Dons went in at half time with a slender one nil lead.

The second half started much the same as the 1st with Cove challenging for every ball, hard in most cases, but the where breaking up every Dons move, Coops did get free one on one a couple of times, but Adam Watts in Cove's goal was able to keep the score down to just one goal.

Darren Dobinson came on with fifteen minutes remaining replacing Ryan Gray on the left and Jamie Angell replaced Steve Gibson just after that and the started to get a few more chances down the wings, with eleven minutes left the Dons received a free kick about 40 yards from which the Dons took it quick, the ref pulled it back because he had no blown his whistle and while the Cove players where getting back into position the ref blew his whistle, from the freekick the ball was laid off short to Darren Dobinson who hit the ball high and hard towards goal, the Cove keeper must have though it was going over as he didn't even go up for the ball which drop neatly into the top corner, not a bad way to open your scoring Dobo, well done.

The ref then took offense to the Dons photographer Paul Willatt's yellow jacket and despite the fact that he had been wearing it all game, he was asked to remove it!

Mark Skinner made his debut for the Dons with 5 minutes left replacing Lee Sidwell, from a corner shortly after Dobo again put the ball into the net from close range slotting the ball between the keeper and a Cove defender on the line, but was ruled offside by the linesman.

Not the best of games or performances by the Dons, but three points nun the less, next up is a double event against Ash Utd both games are away fixtures but the cup game this Wednesday has been switched to Kingsmeadow.

Cup Match

Saturday 22nd November 2003 FA Vase 2nd Round
AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Wooton Blue Cross

Firstly well done to Trevor & co for all their hard work before the game making sure as much water as possible was drained off the pitch and making sure this game went a head.

After the roller-coaster of Wednesday, Terry started off with our standard formation of 442, with Matt Martin in for cup tied Lee Carroll and the rest of the team having no surprises, Wooton BX came out wearing what looked like rugby shirts maybe hoping that the England performance in the rain earlier may rub off on them, but from the start the Dons where in control.

The Dons 1st goal came on 30 minutes when Harvey broke down the wing and laid the ball on to Coops who turned two players steadied himself before unleashing a fine strike into the far top corner taking a light deflection of a Wooton BX defender, the Dons could have wrapped up just before half time but for a goalline clearance from a Matt Everard header.

The 2nd half started with the Dons attacking the athletics end, most people opted not to change ends and the Dons 2nd goal came with plenty of people still drying off in the bars, Wooton BX defenders tried to clear the area five times before the ball fell to Gavin Bolger on the six yard box who drove the ball low into the goal 2-0.

The game was basically over at this point as even though Wooton BX where playing well, when ever they had the ball in midfield Seb, Gavin or Joe and even Coops would be on top of them, and if they got pass them the solid back four would clear with easy for either Sidwell or Ryan Gray to attack down the wings.

With time running out and the rain still coming down no stop some people started to leave early, something I will never understand when your winning don't you want to applaud your team off the pitch or if your losing don't you want to support your team to the end with a hope of winning, as it was we where winning and the rain didn't matter and it wouldn't have been a cup match without a Matt Everard goal and with six minutes left Ryan Gray supplied a perfect corner to the center of the goal where Matt was waiting to head the ball between a defender and the Wooton BX keeper 3-0.

The draw for the next round will be on Monday, will post here as soon as known lets hope for another home tie with less rain, the next round game will be played on the 13th which means the game against the AFC Wallingford will have to be arranged also announced was that the away Surrey Senior Cup match against Ash on Wednesday the 3rd December has been switch to Kingsmeadow.

Cup Match

Wednesday 19th November 2003
AFC Wimbledon 5-4 Walton Casuals

Well who wants to win every game by four or five goals anyway, for the cup game against a good Walton Casuals team Terry left out Joe Sheerin and Seb Favata & Kevin Cooper started on the bench, Danny Oakins returned from suspension to join Matt Everard and Lewis Taylor in a back three & upfront was the pairing of Ryan Luffman and Paul Scott.

The game started well, well for Walton Casuals anyway and on 11 minutes WC broke away at pace and achieved something no other team has done this season and scored against Lee Carroll, the Dons looked shocked that anyone had the cheek to score against them and to make it was on 15 minutes WC repeated the same move which resulted in a corner, from which WC score against a static defence two nil down fifteen minutes gone, but we have been here before against Walton Casuals also in the cup last season.

Surely the Dons would kick into gear soon, well yes they did pick up the pace, but once against Walton Casuals broke away and on the half hour scored there third words like Southall and spanking sprang to mind, but the ref was having none of that and four minutes later gave the Dons a lifeline as well as a penalty for, well you tell me and the rest of the crowd as no one sure the reason either, with no Coops on the field up stepped Ryan Gray to slot home a good penalty 1-3 just in time for a nice half time chat with Terry.

The second half started with a couple of changes Seb came on for Noal Frankum and Matt Matrin replaced Lee Carroll in goal and from the start the Dons where straight into Walton Casuals and it wasn't long before the pressure told on Danny Wheeler in the Walton Casuals goal from an innocent cross on the edge of the box DW dropped the ball and in his effort to clear the ball up field hit the ball against WC no.2 who was coming back to help which sent the ball flying off into the goal 2-3 sixty minutes gone and the roller-coaster was just getting started.

With the Dons heaping on the pressure looking for an equaliser Walton Casuals again Broke free and opened up the two goal difference and could have killed the game soon after as a looping backward header from Lewis Taylor just missed the goal, but the Dons where not finished yet, Terry replaced Jamie Angell with Coops putting three men up field and on eighty two minutes Paul Scott held the ball long enough to lay on a perfect through ball to Ryan Luffman who hit the ball low and fast pace the keeper 3-4 eight minutes left and Walton where looking rattled.

With ninety minutes up the Dons won a corner and as Ryan Gray was placing the ball all hell broke lose in the goal, the ref who was watch Ryan at the time consulted his linesman and had a talk with WC no.2 giving him a nice yellow card even though he had just been taken off, from the corner the Dons won another corner this time on the opposite side, everyone was in the box, but all eyes were on Matt Everard looming up at the edge of the box, Herne Baye anyone and so it was as the cross flow over the heads of the men in orange there was only ever going to be one outcome, up came the tower, in flow the ball, up jumped the crowd four all and only eight minutes of time added on to play, before the game went into extra time.

Who need extra time when you've got Matt 'the tower' Everard, the Dons got another couple of corners almost straight away and from the insuring melee of shots of goal it was Matt Everard who toe pocked the ball home low and hard, five four the Dons, the final whistle blow an Walton Casuals must be wondering what they have to do to beat us.

League Match

Saturday 8th November 2003
Cobham 0-4 AFC Wimbledon (at Sutton Utd FC)

Cobham switched this game to Sutton's ground to basically coin it in and worry about the points later, but for the 1st 45 minutes their team gave as good as it got and as we gave them the easy is 45 minutes any team has had this season with no shots on goal or near goal it was the dullest 1st half for a long time and brought out the question would we ever score at Gander Green Lane.

It took just seven minutes to answer that question an who was there, but the same player who scored against us in that 1st ever match and our top scorer Kevin Cooper with a tap in from six yards out, but it was good enough to brake to curse and set up thirty minutes of three scoring.

The 2nd goal came on 66 minutes from a corner and was a repeat of many a goal this season there towering at the back was Mr.Matt Everard to head home the ball.

Seven minutes later Joe Sheerin chased a lost ball into the box, got control on the line dragged the ball and turned two Cobham players inside out and laid the ball across the goal to the waiting Lee Sidwell to slot home, Joe then finished the scoring off in the 79th minute with a tap in all of his home.

So 1,640 Dons went home happy with three more point's and eight (may have been more than eight but who's counting) Cobham got some extra cash hopefully.
