AFC Wimbledon 0-3 Walton & Hersham
FACup 2RQ

Mr Anderson named an unchanged side for the FACup 2RQ match against Walton & Hersham, but it unfortunately it was the same team and performance that didn't turn up for the second half against Redbridge that crashed out of the cup against a solid Swans team.

It could have been so different if Shane Smeltz had been able to convert one of the two chances that fell to him in the first few minutes, but with just ten minutes gone Harvey conceded a free kick on the halfway line for controlling the ball on the touchline and the Swans took the kick quickly and as the ball was sent into the box Mark Cooper went head the ball back to Andy Little, but he put very little power into the header and Nwokeji slipped in between him and Little to knock the ball over the stranded Little.

The Dons did put pressure on the Swans for a short time, but Nick Gindre their keeper was once again there to catch anything sent into the box.

With thirty minutes gone W&H doubled their lead, Michael Woolner brought down a Swans player on the edge of the box, from the resulting free kick Sam Keevill borrowed from BM™ freekick toolbox and sent the ball over the wall and in off the post, leaving Andy with Little chance.

The second half saw the Dons search for a way back into the match, but it wasn't to be and in the eighty ninth minute Gavin Cartwright rounded off a good performance for the Swans with a cracking shot from outside the box that few into the back of the net and maybe go some way to easing the pain of finishing second in the league and cup last season.

Redbridge 0-3 AFC Wimbledon

The dons bounced back from the defeat against Worthing with an easy three nil win away from home against bottom of the table strugglers Redbridge, the game was pretty much over at half time as the dons cruised to a three goals lead at half time.

Michael Harvey back from The Match replaced Sonny Farr in midfield and Mark Cooper continued in place of Steve Butler.

Shane Smeltz got the first of his two goals with a glancing header across the keeper from a Dave Sargent cross on seven minutes and the Dons could have notched up four or five in the first twenty minutes.

But the second goal didn't arrive till twenty nine minutes, after Harvey was brought down for the umpteenth time Richard Butler took the free kick quickly and sent Barry Moore free, he bared down on goal and unleashed a rocket of a shot that left the keeper looking into space and a flew into the back of the net despite the attempts of a player on the line trying to fist the ball clear.

The third goal came seven minutes later a low volley by Shane Smeltz curled goalward, bounced and trickled over the line.

The second half didn't live up to the expectation of a CCL style goal glut, but the dons looked like they had settle for just the three goals and with the FACup game against W&H at the weekend decided to rest the team for the second forty five minutes and Redbridge looked the more likely of the teams to score.

Three points and back to winning ways, but the chance to get a bigger goal difference wasted.

AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Worthing

The Dons sercumed to the first league defeat of the season against one of the strongly fancied sides for the title this season.

Like our old CCL challengers Withdean 1Yr who had links with them, Worthing play a strong physical game and from early on the where causing the Dons defence problems in the box and fairly taking control of the midfield area.

On seventeen minutes their pressure paid off when a corner found it's way through the static Dons defence and found Marc Cable on the far side of the six yard box and he powered his header pass the scrambling Andy Little to give Worthing the lead.

The Dons finally got their game going and came close to equalizing a couple of times and Shane Smeltz was unlucky when his header from a Wes Daly cross flow pass the keeper only to rebound off the crossbar.

Worthing went in at half time one up, both teams made changes Steve Butler was replaced by Mark Cooper as the dons reverted to a 442 formation and started to lay on the pressure in the second half and Worthing seem happy to sit with nine men behind the ball and counter attack and finally after seventy seven minutes the Dons equalised, after Jeff Campbell was brought down, Barry Moore with a BM™ goal sent the ball looping over the wall and into the top corner.

But once again the Dons lack of concentration for the full ninety minutes resulted in Worthing scrambling the ball over the line on eight nine minutes to give Worthing the three points.

Ashford Town (M) 0-2 AFC Wimbledon

The was a suprise name to the starting line up as his named had not even been in the squad announced on the OS , but the nice suprise was that Richard Butler made his return from injury and after only elven minutes it was his goal against his former club that once again saw the Dons take an early lead again Ashford, Butler headed on a Andy Little goal kick and again Sonny Farr was sent on his way towards goal and just as in the first match the keeper blocked his shot only to see it fall to Richard Butler who made no mistake.

Ashford had some good chances to level the score no better then when Neil Breslin who scored the goal on ninthy minutes to force the replay, once again beat Andy Little with a header only to see the ball bounce back off the crossbar and out.

Ex Dons Lee Passmore picked up a booking for a tussle with Richard Buttler and shoud have seen red for late tackle on Michael Woolner for which he only recieve a talking to, the game could have swung ever way with both side coming close and with half time closing in Dave Sargen had the ball in the back of the net for the Dons only for the ref to rule it out for reasons know only to him.

With the second half going the same way as the first with both team coming close, the task was made hard for the home side when former Don Lee Passmore became frusted and was once again booked by the ref and sent off, from there on it was all one way traffic and Barry Moore made it two nil with a BM™ goal as he sent the ball looping over the wall and into the top corner.

Despite Ashford's late challenge there was to be no repeat of the come back and the Dons where through to the next round of the FACup were we will meet up again with Walton & Hersham this time at Kingsmedow.

AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Ashford Town (M)

The Dons once again started out on the FACup trail against Ashford this time it was the Middlesex version.

With Richard Butler still out injuried, Shane Smeltz was joinded up front by Wes Daly and it was Wes that opened the scoring for the Dons, a Barry Moore ball had sent Sonny Farr through on goal he was unable to score dispute to attempt, both stopped by the keeper, but the second fell to Wes who made to mistake blasting the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box with half an hour gone.

The lead was doubled just after the break, when Wayne Finne launched one of his long throws from next to the corner flag that landed on the far side of the six yard box and was headed back in the goal area by Michael Woolner where Steve Butler was on hand to place his header past the diving keeper and into the lower corner of the goal.

Its was all going so well Ashford had hardly had a sniff on goal and the Dons where leading by two goals and even when Ashford did reduce that to just one, when they score from a badly defended free kick leaded to a simple headed goal from inside the six yard box it still looked all one way traffic.

Then with time running out Ashford went all out attack and with ninty minutes on the clock and after a string of corners and with the keeper coming up for the corner in true cup match fasion, his miss head seem to lead to confusion as the ball bounced through to the far side of the box where Neil Breslin sent a looping header goalward and over the out streached Andy Little and into the back of the net and send the traveling fans wild with joy.

AFC Wimbledon 1 -1 Bromley

I could almost copy and past the last match report here, slack defending in the second minute from a corner lead to the ball not being cleared and from close range Barry Gardner was able to poke the ball past a group of player into the back of the net and give Bromley the lead.

Thankfully it didn't take two injuries for the Dons to get into the game this time and even with Shane Smeltz as the lone striker up front the Dons had created enough chance and even hit the woodwork twice and should have gone in at half time with a least a two goal lead.

The second half saw the Dons increase the pressure on Bromleys back four and with just over fifteen minutes remaining a long ball in to the box from the touchline found Wes Daly he was unable to control it under the challenge from a Bromley player, but the ball bounced perfectly in the the path of Shane Smeltz who was running in the area and he lined up to strike the ball hard into the top of the net, but instead scuffed the ball which lead it to bounce off in the opposite direction which seem to catch the keeper out as he reached to late to make any save.

Barry Moore had a couple of chances to give the Dons the lead and also hit the bar, as the Dons looked for the winner and Smeltz was a hand full till the end for the Bromley keeper, but again the Dons had to settle for just one point in a game that should have seen all three go our way.

East Thurrock Utd 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

Not sure if it was down to the early kick off, but for the second game running lack of concentration cost the Dons again this time within two minutes of the kick and again from a quick throw in East Thurrock sent a low ball across the face of the goal and with no ET players around him Wes Daly had plenty of time to control the ball and clear the ball away, but instead he pass the ball back to Andy Little or that's what it looked like he intended to do, the problem was Andy Little had moved with the cross to the far post as the ball crossed the line on the near post.

With the early lead under their belt ET went forward with confidence and made Andy Little pull of a string of quality saves that kept the Dons in the match.

Two changes had to made just before half time due to injuries, first Jeff Campbell was replaced by Sonny Farr and his pace instantly caused ET trouble, then with no other recognized forwards on the bench Mr.Anderson had to reshuffle the pack as an injured Matt Fowler had to be replaced by Anthony Howard and the changes saw the Dons start to get on top of the match.

Not sure what was said at half time, but after the break the Dons where a different team and put the ET defence and keeper from the kick off and with just over an hour gone the pressure final paid off, a quick flowing move from the halfway line saw Wes Daly make up for his earlier mistake as he became the provide of the low cross that found Anthony Howard in the box and he guided the ball into the back of the net , maybe with Butler & Fowler out injured Frankie could become the 6'3 forward we've been looking for.

Once again it was a case of plenty of chances, but none of the finding the back of the net and like Staines, East Thurrock manged to hold on till the end and the Dons had to settle for our second one all draw in a row.
