Saturday 30th October 200
AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Tooting & Mitcham Utd
The Merton derby got off to a bad start with T&M going close in the first minute and then worst on five minutes the Dons had a corner which say T&M breakaway up field to the halfway line were Nick Roddis then sent the ball skyward back to Danny Naisbett who had to bring the ball down while being challenged be a T&M player and cleared the ball out only to another T&M player who ran into the box and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Then on fourteen minutes Antony Howard had to be replaced after an earlier clash of head with T&M's Howard who had already gone off and just like the Thurock match Chris Gell was sent back into defence as cover, Tooting had more of the chances, but it was the Dons who scored next as Ryan Gray was once again the provider of a corner that Matt Everard just failed to connect with and the ball sailed to the back of the box where Jon-Barrie Bates head the ball back across goal and found Martin Randall who some how volleyed the ball into the back of the net and bring the scores level.
The lead only lasted only ten minutes as the Dons defence again pressed the self-destruct button and a ball into the box found a T&M player unmarked, his shot pasted Danny but hit the post only to fall at the feet of T&M's top scorer John Hastings who poked the ball home from close range.
The second half didn't start any better and had it not been for some good saves from Danny Naisbitt the score could have been higher, but his habit of punching away every ball into the box was causing a few hearts in the three thousand plus crowd to skip a beat or two, Nick Roddis was also having a mare of a game and nearly gifted T&M another goal just before he was replaced by Steve Gibson on the hour mark.
The Dons finally started showing some fighting spirit and a through ball saw Richard Butler holding off two T&M players into the box were one of them clipped his heels bring him down and the ref awarded a penalty, Rob Ursell stepped up and sent the ball to his right, but the T&M keeper chose correctly and got across well to parry away the ball which was then cleared up field.
The Dons finally leveled the score with fifteen minutes remaining when Rob Ursell managed to get the ball to the byline in the box then pulled it back and laid the ball into the path of Martin Randall on the six yard box to thump the ball into the back of the net and send the crowd mental.
Both teams went looking for the winner and both came close Rob Ursell coming closes with his curling shot that hit the wrong side of the post and bounced out deep into injury time, so the 1st league meeting against T&M since 63-64 ends in a draw but only just.

AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Flackwell Heath
Mr. Anderson put out a fairly strong team against Flackwell Heath who despite their dogged perseverance (they where a bit like a Jack Russell snapping around at your ankles annoying but not really getting very far) the failed to create anything that troubled Danny in goal, but then again neither did the Dons and it was just the two goals late in both half's that settled the game and were enough to send the Dons through to the next round of the Bryco Cup.
The 1st goal came on forty minutes after Martin Randall was felled while turning his marker in the box for witch the ref awarded a penalty and Martin stepped up and firmly hit the ball to the keepers left as the keeper dived right.
The second goal came on the stroke
of full time Ryan Gray sent over a corner to the near post were Steve Butler
rose and sent the ball sideways into the near side of the goal.

Saturday 23rd October 200
Metropolitan Police 1-1 AFC Wimbledon
The long arm of the law or more precise Stuart Mackenzie the Met Police keeper pulled of a string of saves to keep the Dons from taking the lead in the very wet conditions.
Richard Butler limped off on
thirty minutes and was replaced with Leon McDowall and just after that the Met
Police snatched the lead, after Roddis was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed
on the half way line the Met Police broke down the door wing and laid on a perfectly weighted cross to the head of Rob Haworth,
who sent the ball lopping of Dannys and into the back of the net.
With the rain getting stronger in the second half both teams found it hard going, the Dons where creating the better chances but again Stuart Mackenzie was in top form stopping, blocking and claiming everything the Dons set his way.
With just under an hour gone
the Dons pressure finally broke through the Police barricade as Ryan Gray ran
in the box from the left and fired home a fierce shot across the box and into
the back of the net to give the Dons the equaliser, the rest the match sailed
pass with both team looking to get out of the rain and finally the ref blow
his whistle after about two seconds of injury time played.

TheFA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round
AFC Wimbledon 0-2 Thurrock
Oh well the FACup dream is over for another year as the Dons came up against the Thurrock a team from the land of the giants and come up short.
It was all going so well the FA Cup itself was on display in the back bar, Robert Ursell received his well earn award for player of the round before the match and even the heavy rainfall wasn't a problem.
Thurrock kicked off with the Dons attacking the Westbank and from the off the Dons looked to have the upper hand as they put Thurrock under pressure at the back, the Dons should have had a goal in the 1st couple of minutes as a Ryan Gray corner was swung into the near post Gavin Bolger rose and headed the ball pass the Thurrock defender on the line, but the had apparently seen as push and disallowed the goal and awarded Thurrock a freekick.
![]() |
The Dons kept creating good chances and managed another ten to twelve corners in the 1st quarter of an hour, but where unable to get anywhere near the ball in the box as Thurrock had settled into the game and were cleaning up an ball into the box.
Twenty minutes gone the Dons and more to the point Jay Conroy's head received a massive blow, which meant the Dons had to make an unwanted change at the back and Jay had to be stretched off and taken to hospital with suspected concussion, thankfully he was given the all clear and allowed to leave hospital Saturday night, but will not be available for at least a couple of weeks.
The Dons had Steve Butler on the bench, but he was not fully fit and was not expected to last the remaining seventy minutes so the bench decided to replace Jay with Nick Roddis who went into midfield and Chris Gell who had been running things in midfield dropped back into defence.
![]() |
With just under half an hour gone Thurrock had their 1st real attempt on goal and from it received a corner, the ball was floated into the six yard box where Thurrock's captain Jimmu McFarlane was able to jump unmarked and head the ball into the back of the net.
Richard Butler had an excellent chance to level the score, but the ball seem to get stuck in the muddy surface and didn't have enough pass to go over the line.
The second half started in the same manner the Dons going forward looking for a goal to level the score, but with just six minutes gone Thurrock's striker Tesor Kanol broke from the halfway line and with Danny Naisbitt coming out to meet him chipped him Joe Sheerin style from just outside the box.
Two nil Thurrock job done shut up shop and that's what Thurrock did for the rest of the half quite successfully, the Dons gave it their best shot and at times looked the better team despite the difference in league positions, especially when passing the ball around on the deck which can only be a good sign for the future.
So its back to the league challenge for us for now and with the Met Police failing to take advantage of our cup run and losing at home to Cray Wanderers we kept a six point gap at the top with games in hand and next up for us is the an away trip to Imber Court to face the Met Police this Saturday.
At lease we still in four other
cups and to reach the Third Round Qualifying was pretty good going and we took
the scalps of two teams from higher divisions along the way, AFC Wimbledon Giant
Killers in the making.

AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Metropolitan Police FATrophy Preliminary Round
Well they can't all be pretty, the Met Police had the better of the first ten to fifteen minutes and put Dons defence under the screw on a couple of occasions, but could not make anything of it.
The Dons then had a few chances go close, just after half an hour had gone when Martin Randell was brought down but the ref wave played and Steve Gibson ran down the Met Police's left wing and sent in a low ball that was hoofed out for a corner the ref then booked the Met Police player who felled Randell, from the corner Ryan Gray sent over a low cross that Richard Butler and the keeper went for, it was the keeper who got to the ball first only to punch it into the back of the net, it was a bit fuzzy over who had scored as it did not get announce as an own goal until half time.
The Met where unlucky not to have equalized shortly after after that had a firm shot curled pass the diving Danny Naidbitt's only for the ball to hit the post and fly right across the open goal and out for a goal kick, Danny then had to use his get out of jail card again after he let a back pass escape under his foot and head towards the line and managed to scramble back and clean his line.
One nil at half time.
The second half was a non event, as it seemed that it was not only most of the low crowd that was hoping for the game to finish so they could go watch the England Wales game, Ryan Gray broke down the left about three times near the end of the game the first two cross ended on the running track behind the ground but the third on ninety minute's was a perfect cross that saw Chris Gell steal a yard on his marker and head the ball home from six yard out.
In the end the Dons did just enough to nick the result and will now face Mr. Andersons old club Hendon and the Met Police will have to go back to training.

Saturday
2nd October 2004
Dunstable Town 0-3 AFC Wimbledon
A Wizards hat-trick saw the Dons cruise pass Dunstable Town and on to the third qualifying round of the FACup where we will meet Thurrock from the Conference South.
Both sides had the early chances, but it was the dons that looked the most likely to score and on fifteen minutes after some good work by Joe Sheerin on the right, he laid the ball off to Jon-Barrie Bates who passed it through to Rob Ursell just outside the D, Rob then rolled the ball back inside and hit the ball firmly into the top right corner of the net and just out of reach of the last minute dive by the keeper.
The Dons then took control with JBB and Chris Gell not allowing Dunstable any time in the middle and Ryan Gray and Steve Gibson also giving them little down the wings and Dunstable only chances came from set pieces.
On the half hour mark Joe Sheerin was bundled off a through ball that went on to Richard Butler, but between him and Rob Ursell they could not make it two mainly down to some good work by their keeper and defenders on the line and the Don received a corner Joe received some treatment while it was being taken and came back on, but never looked comfortable and was replaced by Martin Randall three minutes later.
Steve Gibson went on a run straight down the centre of the pitch pass four or five players, before hitting a shot to close to the keeper, then just before half time he sent over an in swinging cross that Richard Butler managed to get his head to and send it across the six yard box where Rob Ursell sprung up at the far post and head home the ball and himself into the back of the net two nil.
With Dunstable now having the strong wind in their favour and quite a few over six foot players it could have been a tough second half, but it became more physical than tough and Richard Butler and Danny Naisbitt were both tackled late early on, but both battled on, though Richard was eventually sub on eighty five minutes.
With eight minutes gone in the second half Steve Gibson was again the provider of an excellently weighted ball up field that JBB went up for and out jumped the big defender and in the process headed the ball on to the Wizard who controlled the ball with his knee, turned and hit a looping ball from way out side the box over the keeper, who could on stand an watch as the ball dipped under the bar and in, pure magic and not a bad way to get the hat-trick and kill the game off.
Rob could have made it four soon after as he ran on to a through ball, but was unable to get round the keeper, who with twenty minutes still remaining was awarded the man of the match by the home teams match sponsors, maybe just before they left to go back to the bar ;-).
Towards the end of the game one of the home supporters decided he wanted to congratulate the keeper personal and ran the full length of the pitch stark naked and jumped in to the arms of the keeper, who had been having problems with balls all match, but this was a bit much the streaker then went running towards the linesman and did a slow motion tackle on him, which the lino complete missed and ended up on the ground, the streaker was the taken away by the local police and the game continued.
Both teams created little chances after that and the Dons ran the clock and left the pitch to a standing ovation for another solid performance against a higher placed team.

Wednesday 29th September 2004
Corinthian-Casuals 0-3 AFC Wimbledon
After a fairly quite start by both teams the dons again scored two goals in quick succession, the 1st again created and scored by the Wizard Ursell after picking up the ball on the edge of the box ran at the defenders an hit a shot that was heading towards goal until a Casuals player ducked in the way an the ball bounced of his back and down to the feet of Rob who then lobbed the keeper from close range and the ball dipped under the bar
The second goal was a fine low strike from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner of the net and unlike Leatherhead or Hastings, the Corinthians never looked like troubling Danny Naisbitt in goal, the only shots they had were from long range and both went way over the bar and only troubled the owners of the cars parked over the back of the fence.
The third goal came with fifteen minutes left in the half Joe Sheerin and Richard Butler worked the ball through the Casuals defence before laying the ball off two off to Rob Ursell who rounded the keeper before hit the ball into the back of the net, three nil and a very comfortable win.
