Easter Monday 28th March 2005
AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Dorking

The Dons secured promotion into the Ryman Premier league next season with a fairly easy three nil victory at home to Dorking, for the third home game in a row the Dons took the lead with less than ten minutes on the clock, Steve Butler must have got the taste for goals after his tap him against Banstead, he took the ball of a Dorking player about fifteen yards outside the edge of Dorking's box he then went forward a couple of yards before striking the ball hard and straight sending it high into the top of the net.

Sonny Farr who has impressed since joining and also been the provider of the corners that resulted in goals in recent matches, showed that he can also take a decent freekick too, Michael Woolner was badly fouled on the edge of the box and had to be replaced, Sonny line the ball up and curled his shot round the wall into the far corner.

The Dons had to wait until the eighty fifth minute for third Shane Smeltz picked the ball up on the center circle and dribble the ball right up to the penalty box, before laying the ball into Leon's path in the box, he turned his marker and hit the ball low into the back of the net and started the promotion celebrations that went on late into to the evening.

Good Friday 25th March 2005
Banstead Athletic 1-3 AFC Wimbledon

After two stunning performances the Dons showed they can still dig in and produce the result when needed.

On a bright sunny Good Friday day it was Banstead who started the stronger and had the Dons scrambling earlier on, but again it was Richard Butler that settled the nerves of the two thousand odd travelling Dons, chasing onto a low ball he controlled the ball before lobbing the ball up and over a defender and rounded him before side footing the ball pass the keeper.

Banstead pulled level from the penalty spot ten minutes later, the ref awarded the penalty after one of their players was brought down in the box and Paul Smith was sent the wrong way from the spot.

Richard Butler & Rob Ursell linked up in the box four minutes later to take the lead again, Butlers pace took him into the box, he then passed the ball into Rob's path who side footed it pass a defender and the keeper.

Two minutes before half time the lead was extended, from a corner the Dons played a bit of head tennis with Banstead, before our other Butler put the the ball over the line from about a foot out Steve managed to get his foot to the ball before the player trying to clear his line and set the ball goalward from a foot out.

The second half saw plenty of chances fall the Dons way, but they were unable to get the ball into the net and if it wasn't for a couple if good saves from Smithy the result could have been a bit tighter.

With W&H or Horsham having to play each other still one or both will drop 2 if they draw and one will drop 3 points if it's not a draw, so if we win our two games over the Easter period we will win promotion on Monday and maybe the league if results elsewhere go our way i.e. W&H and H both losing one of their two games, but that's a lot of what ifs and

Well Done to the U18's on winning the Southern Youth League Eastern Division title tonight with a 4-2 win against Staines, well done Nicky English two seasons two league championships.

Also tonight the U18's can win their league with a win or draw against Staines Town @ Kingsmeadow KO 7.45pm admission is free and on Saturday the mens reserves are away to Lewes.

The Ladies don't have any games this weekend, but five of the first team Lou Cooper, Lizzie Laws, Maria Bertelli, Keisha Ramos & Andrea McGrady played last night for the Surrey County team in their three two win against a strong London side.

Saturday 19th March 2005
AFC Wimbledon 4-1 Horsham

This was billed as a tough top of the table clash 1st v 2nd, as with Newport the Dons came out flying and had opened up a three goal lead after just thirty minutes.

The first goal was also similar to the first against Newport Sonny Farr sent over a corner, but this time it was the flying Kiwi Womble that rose at the near port to head home form close range after just seven minutes and he could have made it two four minutes later when he had broken through the Horsham defence and with only the keeper to beat he chipped the ball over the keeper diving at his feet, but not with enough power and as the ball trickled goalward slowly, Richard Butler raced in and rammed it into the back of the net before a defender could clear it.

The strength of the young Richard Butler resulted in yet another goal for a contender for Player of the Year, as he held off a defender as they both ran at pace towards the ball on the edge, he reached the ball just before the keeper coming in the other direction and poked the ball pass him into the empty net.

Again in the second half the Dons attacked the Athletics end which meant the travelling Lardy Boys (Horshams fans nickname for themselves) joined the Dons Choir Boys in Westbank for some friendly banter between fans, Horsham finally turned up to the game in the second half and pulled a goal back after five minutes, the Dons conceded a freekick dead centre on the edge of the box, Horsham unlike other teams didn't hit the ball straight into the top corner, but preferred to chip it into the box have a bit of a scramble before hitting the ball across goal into the net, so the end result of the freekick was the same a goal.

This did give them some hope, well for eleven minutes at least, that was until Rob Ursell did what Rob Ursell does best, get the ball outside the box goes pass someone and before anyone else can get near him curl the ball into the back of the net and that was the end of the tough top of the table clash.

Saturday 12th March 2005
AFC Wimbledon 5-0 Newport IoW

The Dons got off to a flying start when after only three minutes new on loan signing Sonny Farr sent over a corner that found the head of Antony Howard two yard out at the far post.

On the half hour mark it was the turn of another new signing to make a good impression the ball dropped in front of our New Zealand international Shane Smeltz on the edge of the box and he hit the ball first time high and over Joe McCormack in the Newport goal, who just fell back and laid flat out while the Dons celebrate the cracking goal.

Eight minutes later Richard wrapped the match up with two goals in three minutes, the first was a thunderous low driven shot across the face of the goal from about the same spot Shane had score that left Joe McCormack with little chances and with the choir's of where were you when Butlers scored still ringing in his ears (which he provided a freeze frame pose for) Butler had made it four nil, powering pass a defender he cut inside another defender before hitting the ball low into the near post from just outside the six yard box.

The second half saw the travelling Islanders supports join the Dons in the Westbank for a good forty five minutes of banter enjoyed by both sides, on the pitch Newport held the at bay for four minutes after the break, after some more hard work from Richard Butler he laid the ball into Rob Ursell's path and his low shot from outside the box flow at the keeper who could only parry it into the path of Shane Smeltz who had followed up the ball and had a simple ball to knock into an empty net for his double debut goal and round the scoring off.

Molesey 0-1 AFC Wimbledon

After the free flowing football of the cup on Wednesday, it was back to the hard graft of chipping away at a ten man defence at Molesey, the 1st half saw few chances the Dons had new on loan signing Lewis Hamilton at right back making his debut and looked fairly solid, but then again Molesey didn't cause much trouble, so he didn't have much to do and with Jake Cole returned in goal any threat was easily dealt with.

The second half saw Rob Ursell replace Andy Frost and on the hour Leon McDowall replaced Andrew Martin who was having a very quite game up front and with in three minutes Ursell played in an inch perfect cross that Leon had no problems in heading home from the edge of the six yard box.

The injury list that has plagued the Dons all season had another name added as Mark Cooper picked up a hamstring problem and is expected to be out for three to four weeks,

Three more points and with Horshams match falling fowl of the weather the lead was extended to fourteen having played a game more, but Walton & Hersham continued to keep matching us point for point by winning away from home against bottom club Croydon, but they are fifteen points behind with two games in hand*.

AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Crystal Palace

It;s been a long time coming, but we finally beat Crystal Palace at our place.

With Palace reserves playing the day before they sent a team of young player along for the Surrey Senior Cup Qtr Final match and as with some of our games i.e. Thurrock, Hendon and Fisher it was a case of men vs boys as our physical strength on the ball was just too much.

The Palace player's showed some good football skills and had a couple of chances early on and with them wanting to play football rather than kick players/ball like some teams we have played it allow the Dons to pass more freely and made for an entertaining game.

The 1st half was fairly even, in the second half the chanting crowd stayed in the Westbank and where joined by the twenty or so Palace fans which created some lively, but friendly banter for the entire second half.

The Dons finally broke down the Palace defences on fifty minutes with a flowing move from the halfway line Michael Woolner played the ball to Richard Butler, who then held the ball up for a second before laying it off to Andy Frost on the wing, he then took two players with him towards the corner flag before laying the ball back to Steve Gibson who hit a low ball into the box to Butler, who held off his marker and knocking the wall back to Rob Ursell around the penalty spot, Rob then tapped the ball back into the path of Frost who had come running into the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the net one nil to the Wimbledon.

With fourteen minutes left to play Mark Jones picked up the ball deep in our half and set off at pass down field, no challenges came in from the Palace's players and he was able to almost reach the box before hitting a shot that was heading towards the far side of the goal, the keeper looked like he had the shot covered until the ball deflected off Richard's Butler and flew into the opposite side of the net and opened up a two goal gap that Palace never looked like coming back from.

The Dons will know face Sutton Utd in the Semi Final at Gander Green Lane (over one leg only) after they beat Egham two one.
