AFC Wimbledon v Bashley
As with the game at Bashley both team seem to cancel each other out for most of the game and the game really on produced two goal mouth incidents both came in the second half and both teams had one each.
Bashley's came after Jake Cole was dispossessed of the ball way out side his box and he then scrambled back into the goal just as Bashley's shot on goal was headed off the line and over the bar by one of their own players.
The Dons best chance came when Rob Ursell was brought down in the box and he then stepped up to take the penalty which he struck well, but the Bashley keeper produced a fine save and parried the ball back to Rob and rather than just blasting the ball into the back of the open net he took one to many touches, i.e. two, and a couple of Bashley players where onto him and his shot went wide for a goal kick.
This wasn't the best of games, but one point is better than none especially when the team didn't play well (getting back from the IOW at 3am in Thursday morning probably didn't help) and at the end of the day with the results from the rest of the league not to bad we remain at the top of the league and eleven points with a game in hand.

Wednesday 26th January 2005
Newport IoW 1-2 AFC Wimbledon
The day started at two in the afternoon where a small band of Dons fans watched the players set off and then boarded the other three coaches and headed down to Portsmouth were they joined up with more Dons making there own way in cars, after a short delay the invasion of the White Isle's could begin, but first to the bar.
On arrival at Newport's ground the locals were very friendly opening open the bar with a nice selection of food (well pasties, crisps and a pints not bad), big screen TV showing the cricket when we arrived (but that was two hours before kick off) and you could even buy they old players kits for £3 or €4.33077 in local money 8-), the programme was a good if odd price £1.70.
Finally the gates opened and the small band of Dons increased as the advance party's had left the beaches (and pubs) and made their way and in some/most cases staggered to the ground
The first half saw both teams
have early chances and the Dons should have had a penalty early on after a Chris
Gell shot from outside the area was charged down and clearly made contact with
the defenders hand, but nothing was given.
The Wizard Ursell then had a long shot just tipped over by the Newport keeper as the Dons pilled on some pressure, but Newport could have gone in front after a long through ball was intercepted by Mark Jones, but his pass back to Jake Cole in goal was way short and the Newport No 9 (David Greening) was able to out pass Mark to the loose ball, and with Jake trying to back peddle into position Greening tried to pass the ball into the fair corner of the net from outside the box, but he had not hit the ball hard firm enough and Jake was able to scrabble the ball out for a corner.
Martin Randell should have had a penalty after he was challenged from behind, but ref waved play on, the Dons finally took the lead on twenty four minutes when a Ryan Gray corner saw Steve Butler and Newport's Steve Leigh go up for the ball at the near post, both seem to make contact and the ball sailed into the far side of the net.
After the break the Dons looked to increase their lead, while Newport had a couple of chances themselves, Martin Randall hit a looping ball goalward that the keeper tipped over the bar.
The Dons doubled the lead on fifty eight minutes after some good work by the wizard to clear himself some space, he then laid a perfect hip height pass to Richard Butler on the penalty spot, who turned his marker and drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Two nil up and with half an hour to go the Dons player seem to lose concentration, they may have been wondering like a majority off the 765 crowd what time the last ferry left the island and hoping that the ref wasn't the same as all the other refs in this league and add ten to fifteen injury time, it didn't help that at the same time the Newport players picked up the pass and started to stretch the Dons defence and within eight minutes had pulled a goal back and became the first team to put one pass Jake in a Dons top.
Newport's keeper was called into action three more time and pulled off three goalward bound shots, the first was a Wizard curling shot that the keeper tipped onto the bar, then Richard Butler set an over the shoulder shot that the keeper cleared and then he had to stop a point blank shot from Randall.
Luckily it looked like the ref had to catch the same ferry as he blow on time and the Dons made their way back, some to the coaches and cars and some that had the smarts to book rooms went back to the bar, were they where show what happens to the locals when they lose as a couple of blokes were waxed of there body hair (only for charity of course).

Dulwich Hamlet 0-1 AFC Wimbledon
The Dons came through a tough match against a solid Dulwich team, the first half saw both teams battling hard for every ball in the middle of the pitch, but no clear chance fell to either team.
In the second half both teams finally had some shots on goal, but both keeper looked on good form, Dulwich had the best chance to brake the deadlock when one of their players went down under a light challenge from Antony Howard and the ref awarded them a penalty, but once again Jake Cole showed what he's capable off when he dived the correct way and with one hand pushed the ball away, before calmly claiming the ball and setting the up a Dons attack.
With time nearly up the Dons nicked a last minute goal thanks to an excellent thorough ball by Robert Ursell that Richard Butler raced onto and while holding off a defender as he does so well he slide the ball pass the keeper who had come out to meet him.

Surrey Senior Cup 3rd Round
AFC Wimbledon 2-1 Kingstonian
With both Jake Cole and Mark Jones both unavailable for this game, Ryan Gray returned to at left back and Paul Smith in goal and after his impressive performance against Bromley Michael Woolner continued in midfield alongside Jon-Barrie Bates and up front with Martin Randall out injured Leon McDowall started alongside Richard Butler.
The Dons got off to a cracking start, passing the ball around well and after seven minutes taking the lead, Richard Butler and Leon McDowall both went up for the same ball and luckily the ball fell to captain for the night Gareth Graham who hit the ball first time low into the back of the net.
The lead was short lived when Robert Paris leveled the score for the K's and gave the K's supporters outside the gates something to cheer about for a short time.
It wasn't long before the Dons put the K's under more pressure and with twenty three minutes the Dons regained the lead after some good work by Gavin Bolger, he passed the ball to Richard Butler who did a cheeky back heel into the path of Michael Woolner who's first shot hit a defender and he was quickest to react to the loose ball and knocked the ball into the corner of the net to score his first goal for the Dons, which is no more than he deserves for his recent performances.
The K's fans entered the ground at half time to warm applause and this seem to lift their players and they had some chances early, but the Dons always looked in control and with Ryan Gray causing the K's defence problems with his corners and crosses, the Dons looked more likely to score.
With time running out K's had a couple of chances that called Paul Smith into action, but score remained the same and the Dons go through to the next round to meet either Chipstead or Crystal Palace at home.

Saturday 15th January 2005
AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Bromley
The first half was a fairly even event with both the Dons and Bromley having plenty of chances, Bromley had the best chance early on when a cross into the box found Okafor unmarked on the six yard box and his shot produced a excellent point blank save from on loan (from QPR) keeper Jake Cole.
Mark Jones, our other new loan player was also giving a solid performance on the left in the back four and with Gell out injured and JBB suspended Michael Woolner step into the midfield and looked more than comfortable.
Martin Randall picked up an injury and was replaced at half time by Leon McDowall and from the start Leon gave Bromley trouble up front hassling the defenders for every loose ball.
The Dons finally made the second half pressure pay Antony Howard launched a ball up field which Richard Butler chased down, holding off a defender he headed to into the box and hit a shot that the keeper could only parry the ball back into his path and Richard guided the ball into the empty net and sent the Westbank into wild celebrations.
Bromley hardly troubled the Dons after that and Gavin Bolger would have made it two had it not been for the Bromley keepers legs, this was followed by a goal mouth scramble that ended up going just wide.
Three more points and back to winning ways after the blip in the cup.

London Senior Cup
AFC Wimbledon 0-4 Fisher Athletic
Well this one can be filled in the best forget about folder along with the last two exits in the LSC, Barkingside 0-3 & Ilford 2-6.
To be fair to the players they did battle well, but Fisher seem to have a edge over them in every challenge through the match.
Fishers first goal came just before half time from a freekick on the corner of the box, with Paul Smith still shouting for the move left a bit the ball was curled goalward and pinged of the inside of post and in.
The second goal came just after kick off in the second half Damien Scanwell picked the ball up on the touchline halfway in our half of the pitch and ran towards the box, were he hit a low drive that somehow went straight through Paul Smiths.
Martin Randall should have been given a penalty when he was clipped from behind while going pass two defenders in the box, but the ref waved play on and Richard Butler was clean through later on, but play was pulled back for a freekick to us in our half (nice advantage ref).
Fisher made the game safe with five minutes left when a long ball up field saw their tall forward roll away from Jay Conroy and clean through with only Paul Smith to beat and with a low drive the ball nestled in the bottom left corner.
With the Westbank still chanting among over things "were going to win four three", Fisher made it four nil a shot was parried by Paul Smith into the path of Ivere, who hit home from close range to which the WB replied "were going to win Six, four".
Well only the league and two more cups to play for now, bring on Bromley.

Saturday 8th January 2005
Fleet Town 1-3 AFC Wimbledon
Fleet Town gave us a warm welcome on our arrive at the ground and had even gone to the trouble to recreate with much appreciation a CCL style refreshments area with three large army tent's supplying food in one, beer in another and live footie in the center tent in a large muddy field (that I heard was their training pitch).
The dons started the game kicking up hill and soon had a couple of chance and on eleven minutes had taken the lead thanks to a mix up between the keeper and a defender, a long through ball from Rob Ursell was chased down by Richard Butler and the defender, the defender held Butler off while the keeper came rushing to the edge of the box to boot the ball clear, but in doing so hit the ball against the defender and the became tangle with him while Butler had rounded them both and knocked the ball along the ground into the net one nil.
On the half hour mark Mr.Anderson injury list had another name when goalscorer Richard Butler limped off to be replaced with Martin Randall only just back from injury himself, Paul Smith in goal for his second game in a row was again called on to make three or four good saves and looked more than comfortable.
With the slope in the Dons favour in the second half it was a surprise it took the dons to double the lead, in the seventy third minute Rob Ursell reacted quicker to another high ball and as it bounced between him and the defender he headed it forward into his on path before side footing it pass the out coming keeper low into the near post.
You now what they say about buses wait long enough two will come at once, well the same happened with the second and third goal, less than a minute after the Wizard had made it two, Martin Randall popped up and score the third when he ran onto another through ball again from Ursell and hit the ball from the corner of the six yard box across the face of the goal into the far side of the net.
With time up Fleet Town got a consolation goal, from a long throw the ball bounced into the box were Josh Francois was able unchallenged to knock the ball pass Paul Smith low into the bottom right of the net and from the celebration behind the goal you would have fought they had scored the winner if you had arrived very late.
Three goals, three points and a solid and workman like performance from a team struggling with injuries, not a bad day.

Dover Athletic 1-2 AFC Wimbledon
Once again the Dons landed in Dover for another cup game this time the Bryco Cup.
The Dons started with a four four two formation and had Richard Butler teaming up with his ex Ashford teammate Andy Frost up front, the Dover fans moved to the end they were attacking, which was also the end the Dons fans had settled into and despite free rain of the ground decide to stay in and this made for some good friendly banter between the both groups and added to the cup atmosphere.
With Danny Naisbitt out for about six weeks injured Paul Smith was handed the chance to start in goal and from the start was put under pressure from Dover, but he handled it well and his confidence seem to grow with every catch and was called on to stop a few clear chances from Dover.
Slowly the Dons started to create some chances of their own and with half an hour gone Richard Butler latched himself onto a Jay Conroy though ball in the box and after giving the defender the slip he knocked the ball back across the box into the path of Andy Frost who had came running in and hit the a sweet left foot shot in his stride into the far side off the net.
The second half saw Dover pushing hard for the equaliser, again and again Paul Smith was called into action including a shot that he push over the bar, the Dons opened up a two goal lead just past the hour when Rob 'the Wizard' Ursell received the ball on the wing, did a single roll over and hot a cross come shot that dipped into the six yard box, Richard Butler went for a diving head but just missed the ball which carried on traveling towards the goal and pass the diving keeper two nil.
Dover pulled a goal back five minutes later when a corner was headed onto the post and in the scramble for the ball they got the last touch over the line to make for an interesting last twenty minutes.
The Dons then brought back memories of Whyteleafe, when Conroy sent the ball back to Paul, which was intercepted by Dover's number nine, who then rounded Paul and sent the ball across goal, the player in the box miss hit the shot which was then returned back to him and his next shot just crept pass the post.
On seventy eight minutes Chris Gell went for the ball with a Dover's players, the Dover player got to the ball a fraction earlier, but in doing so his foot followed through and made contact with Chris Gell's ankle, Chris was then stretched off, thankfully it wasn't as serious as it looked and he should be available Saturday.
With time running out Dover had a string of corners the third of which the Dons cleared out high, but Dover sent the ball back into the box with two headers the 2nd header found a player on the six yard box and he did a overhead kick that sent the ball into the back of the net, but was judge to have been offside that lead to a chorus of "you thought you had scored, you where wrong" from the Dons fans.
The ref some how found an extra eight or nine minutes extra time before he finally blow his whistle to end the game and send the Dons into the next round.
Next after Dover the Don's sail on to face the Fleet.

1-2 Whyteleafe
Two soft goal's cost the Dons three points, Whyteleafe had the early chance's with ex-Dons Sully and Sidwell looking well up for the game, Sully was causing Ryan Gray trouble down the wing and Lee playing more central seem to have a bit more bit in his challenge's and had a curling shot tipped away by Danny Naisbitt.
After going close a few times, the Dons finally took the lead on thirty nine minutes when Leon McDowall curled a high ball to the far post where an unmarked Ryan Gray leaped and headed the ball over the Leafe's keeper.
The Dons then squandered another couple of chances to extend the lead, with half time approaching Whyteleafe went on the attack and received a freekick the ball was limply punched away by Danny, who then collided with a leafe player and went down and was unable to react in time to the snap shot from Paul Scott, who if my memory serves me right became the first ex AFCDon to score against us.
The second half started brightly with the Dons seeing plenty of the ball, but again and again the Whyteleafe keeper was on hand to claim the ball or make some last minute saves to frustrate the Dons,
The best chance fell to Leon McDowall who was unmarked in the box, as the ball was played across to him Leon swung his rectus femoris (see below) and completely missed the ball.
At the other end of the pitch Danny suddenly stopped taking the goal kicks and looked in pain as he limp off on seventy one minutes as he was replaced by Paul Smith (the news on Danny is that he has torn his rectus femoris (kicking muscle) and will be out for about six weeks.
With ten minutes left the Dons were still going forward looking for another goal, while Whyteleafe were starting to look for a break away and after a bad back pass from Julian Sills they got their chance, Paul Smith was beaten to the ball and the Leafe had two men over to knock the ball into the back of the net and take all three points.
