Open Meeting held on Saturday 18 January 2003
A packed open meeting before the Godalming and Guildford game heard AFC Wimbledon Chairman Kris Stewart outline the timetable for the next few months.
Kris Stewart told fans that the club has a difficult timetable ahead of it.
AFC Wimbledon will be asked to apply for promotion in February at which time the club will have to say where it will be playing.
The club have managed to negotiate a special agreement so that it is able to nominate two possible grounds.
If the club is going to leave
Kingsmeadow, where it is in the first year of a three year licence, then it
has to give notice in late February and would have to pay a penalty clause.
Tooting and Mitcham have made
a planning application which is expected to be decided on in March.
Brentford, who have an option
to move to Kingsmeadow, have to make such a decision in March.
The Ryman League will then inspect
the grounds of those who have applied for promotion in April.
The club knew of the Brentford option when it moved into Kingsmeadow and knew that if Brentford chose to exercise their option then we would have to move elsewhere. However, this season's games at Kingsmeadow are secure, contrary to any reports elsewhere.
The club has yet to agree any fees for next year, but has written to the Khoslas asking for a quote.
AFC Wimbledon is helping Tooting and Mitcham with their application for grants to help them improve their ground, but discussions with them are purely on a ground share basis and have no further connotations.
Any money that AFC Wimbledon puts into the Tooting and Mitcham ground will only be done if it makes sense for the club.
In response to questions from the floor, Kris made the following points:
If the work that Tooting and Mitcham are planning for their ground does not happen in time for next season, then the capacity will remain at about 3500. There would also be fewer seats and covered areas than there are at Kingsmeadow. However, the contractor is relaying the pitch, as the current one is liable to flooding.
AFC Wimbledon has not been in
contact with Brentford over their decision as it may be seen to be interfering
in other people's contracts.
If the club were to groundshare with Tooting and Mitcham then the two clubs
would try to work together as much as possible.
However, the issue of putting AFC Wimbledon colours and crests on the ground is a contentious one. Technically and legally AFC Wimbledon could not be equal partners with Tooting and Mitcham but would try to have an even mindset
If AFC Wimbledon moved to Tooting and Mitcham then it would still be keen to move on to a ground of our own as soon as possible. Merton Council have been told this and they have understood it. The directors do not think that their attitude to us will change, but need to make sure that the issue of AFC Wimbledon remains in the public view.
Club Finance Director Erik Samuelson gave details of the cashflow at the club.
The unaudited figures he produced showed that AFC Wimbledon had made football profits of £98,769 up until the end of 2002.
In addition, there had been merchandise profits of £29,234, profits from the sale of Yellow and Blue of £22,516, donations of £41,186, sponsorship of £41,168 and sundry income of £2,569.
Overheads came to £ 48,559 and tax on profits was £29,901.
This left a net profit after tax of £156,982
Erik confirmed that the club was liable for tax, but he was looking at ways in which some of the educational and other work might be made eligible for tax relief.
Whilst the club tries to be as
open and honest as possible about its finances, there are some contractual relationships
which have to be kept secret and the club tries not to break such confidentiality
clauses as it will harm our negotiating position in the future.
Whilst the day-to-day running
of the club is still in the hands of people who are not paid, there is a proposal
that this position should change in the near future.
Some players are paid an amount which in some cases is more than could be justified
strictly in terms of travel and footballing expenses.
This is at the discretion of
Terry Eames and we declare all such payments to the Inland Revenue.
Commercial Director Ivor Heller announced that all match sponsorships for Saturday games until the end of the season have been sold and that bookings for all forms of sponsorship were being taken for next season.
More merchandise is being planned and this will include a third strip, in white, which will be launched on February 8th.
Lou
Carton-Kelly, the Clubs Operations Director, announced that numbered
seats for season ticket holders should be available next season and that a larger
non-smoking area would be considered.

Team announced.
Terry Eames has named the following squad to face Raynes Park Vale, there are two unfamiliar names they are Gareth Graham & Matthew McMonnell both signed today by Terry.
Glyn Shimell, Steve Lawson, Keith Ward, Danny Oakins, Sean Daly, Mark Nicholas, Gavin Bolger, Lee Passmore, Noel Frankum, Lee Sidwell, Andy Sullivan, Gareth Graham, Kevin Cooper, Matthew McDonnell
Good to see Lee Sidwell and Sean Daley are back, Gareth Graham is a former Northern Ireland U21 international from Whyteleafe whose former clubs include Crystal Palace, Brentford (where he played 16 times), Margate and IVB (Iceland). Gareth plays central midfield, Matthew McDonnell is a 32 year-old striker from Marlow Town who has played previously with Kevin Cooper whilst they were both at Wycombe Wanderers. 24 year-old
Match Preview KO 3.00 pm but come early as a big crowd is expected.
There will be a pitch inspection tomorrow morning.
On Saturday is the Big Derby against Raynes Park Vale, saw them play on Tuesday against Carshalton they where beaten 3-0, up front they have a short but very fast forward and at the back is there captain who is best describe as brick wall, but they where all over the place whenever Carshalton past the ball around, also from corners and crosses the ball was never cleared properly or it just went over there head and out for a throw in or to be crossed back in, if we play to full ability in front of the 3-4k of supporters expected then we should win.
But if we play like we have in the last two games we could get another thrashing.
Two defeats don't make us a bad team, but one win will make them great again :-)
Remember before Hartley Wintney & Barkingside we had gone ten games unbeaten and we will win again, lets hope weather permitting that it is tomorrow.
Raynes Park will be bring a support of 200 or so, mainly friends and family of the players etc. and will be allocated the athletics end of the ground, so there will be no changing at half time and allow the full voice of the West Bank to be heard for 90 min's and Glyn Shimell won't fill lonely all match.
Joe Sherrin is still suspended he was given a 35 day ban which started on 6 January 2003 and he will be back 9 February 2003.
Raynes Park Vales return fixture at Easter could be held at Carshaltons Athletics ground

Tony Readings has leaves the club.
Tony Readings has left AFC Wimbledon for a professional career in New Zealand. Tony, was the captain at our seasons opening day match against Sandhurst Town and was one of the players that had been with the club since the trials, he had until recently taken over as captain whenever Joe was unavailable to play.
I would like to wish Tony all the best and thank him for his contribution whilst at the club, he will be missed.

AFC Wimbledon 0-3 Barkingside
How can I describe this match and incorporate the passion show by the players tonight, oh I know we where crap, we left Glyn Shimell undefended at the back, even when he had just had his shoulder kicked will making a diving save in the second half the back four just kept putting him under pressure.
The midfield what can I say did we have one ? and up front well without and servers how do you expect strikers to have a strike on goal.
Barkingside showed they where up for it and good luck to them in theirs next round match against Ford Utd.
Well next up is Raynes Park and on that performance we wont win.
Team : Glyn Shimell, Steve Lawson, Tony Readings, Keith Ward, Danny Oakins, Gavin Bolger, Neil Robson, Lee Passmore, Noel Frankum, Andy Sullivan, Kevin Cooper.
Subs : Sim Johnston, Simon Bassey, Robbie Burns, Ben Garner, Chris Theodore.
Attendance : 1,125 frozen wombles.
Team announced.
TERRY Eames has named the following players to face Barkingside in the London Senior Cup tonight.
Glyn Shimell, Steve Lawson, Sim Johnston, Tony Readings, Keith Ward, Danny Oakins, Simon Bassey, Gavin Bolger, Neil Robson, Lee Passmore, Noel Frankum, Andy Sullivan, Robbie Burns, Ben Garner, Kevin Cooper, Chris Theodore.
Sim Johnston has been give a welcome recalled to bolster up the defence and there's a home debut for Ben Garner, also Robbie Burns (also his 1st game) has been named and with no Andrew Petty in the list he could partner Coops up front, unless Danny Oakins is given that role, Chris Theodore has also been named but will probable by on the subs bench, the rest of the squad are the usual suspects, hopeful Bolger, Robson will all start this game as they along with Coops made some impact against HW on Saturday, and after their poor performance against Hartley Wintney the other players will have something to prove in tonight's game against Barkingside.
Barkingside also had a bad day Saturday as they where beaten 5-3 at home by Ilford, Barkingside are currently eleventh in the Foresters Essex Senior Premier Football League, one place behind Walthan Abbey who are our next opponents in the Cherry Redbooks trophy, the league is on the same level of the pyramid as ours, prior to the game against Ilford Barkingside beat Woodford Town 7-0 at home.
Kickoff 7.45pm lets hope Kingsmeadow is packed and rocking and that the players show the passion and skills we know they have got.
On Saturday is the Big Derby against Raynes Park Vale, saw them play on Tuesday against Carshalton they where beaten 3-0, up front they have a short but very fast forward and at the back is there captain who is best describe as brick wall, but they where all over the place when ever Carshalton past the ball around, also from corners and crosses the ball was never cleared properly or it just went over there head and out for a throw in or to be crossed back in, if we play to full ability in front of the 3-4k of supporters expected then we should win.

Hartley Wintney 2 v AFC Wimbledon 0
A very bad performance by the dons and some good tactics prepared by HW manager Big Geoff and well drilled team puts an end to dons 10 game unbeaten run.
Not sure what happened to Shimmell but Ray Merry started in goal and was doing ok until he had chase down a bad back pass and a muddy pitch and from the resulting tackle he went down injured (carried on and did finish game) but the HW player went on to score the opening goal on 31mins, that pretty much summed up AFC Wimbledon 1st half and 2nd half's tackling or lack of it,.
With 70 ish minutes gone AFC Wimbledon hit the crossbar and from the rebound HW went straight up the other end and scored their second, why do we have to give teams a two goal head start before we start to play?
Gavin Bolger and Neil Robson came on for Noal Frankum and Mark Nicholas and the dons start to put HW's keeper under some pressure, Coops was one of the few players to put the effort in today, but why when you need to score goals do you make your top scorer fetch his own balls on the wing and then have to go past the eight defenders we all know he can and likes to do it, but would it not be better for the wingers to put the crossed into the box (to his feet) so he can do what he's been doing all season and score?
![]() |
In the last ten minuts of the 90mins (not the extra 10 the ref played) we hit the crossbar, clear penalty on Coops not given, Wardy had his feet and the ball taken away by the HW keeper on the line and we had another two shots off the line, must say the HW keeper and a very good second half which was shown by the amount of stick he was getting from the frustrated crowd.
Big thanks to Big Geoff & Hartney Wintney 1st for the bus ride to the ground (well nearly) and back to the station, also for the warm welcome they showed us especially the bar staff very friendly and efficient, will look forward to going their again if where in the same division next season.
Team : Ray Merry, Steve Lawson, Keith Ward, Danny Oakins, Tony Reading, Mark Nicholas, Lee Passmore, Noal Frankum, Andrew Petty, Kevin Cooper, Andy Sulivan.
Subs : Neil Robson, Gavin Bolger Ben Garner.
Attendance : 1,392

Frenford
Seniors 0 AFC Wimbledon 3
Three goals in the 1st half saw AFC Wimbledon through to a Quarter Final match against Waltham Abbey in the Cherry Redbooks Trophy.
The game was delayed by 15 mins because the ref was late.
Once the game got under way with Sully going down the wings and getting the ball Petty & Russell, where proving to be quite a handful up front for the Frenford defenders, but our best shot on goal in the open 15 min's was from Shimell whose long ball up field bounced once in between the keeper and defenders then went just over the bar.
On sixteen minutes Andy Petty struck home the 1st of his two goals, Frenford replaced their goalkeeper not sure if it was with another keeper but just over 5 minutes later he dropped a ball into the path of Petty who chipped home from close range 2-0.
Lee Passmore came on for Lee Sidwell and Danny Oakins came on for Tony Reading (both off for injuries) and with his 1st touch, Danny Oakins ran round the back of the defence and headed home from close range 3-0.
The second half was basically the players and the crowd waiting for the final whistle, in between that Andy Sullivan had a close range header saved and Andrew Petty only had the keeper to beat and put the ball into the side netting, Ali Russell went off injured (Ligaments trouble) and for the last 15 minutes the Dons played with 10 men.
Not to be outdone by the ref. both linesman's were also late, with every decision they made.
Team : Glyn Shimell, Keith Ward, Stuart May Stave Lawson (capt) , Tony Reading, Lee Sidwell, Noal Frankum, Neil Robson, Ali Russell, Mark Nicholas, Andrew Petty.
Subs : Lee Passmore (on for Sidwell), Danny Oakins (on for Readings), Neil Robson (on for Frankum).
Goalscorers : Andrew Petty (19,28), Danny Oakins (33)
Attendance : 500

AFC Wimbledon 2 v Godalming & Guildford 1
Well after a short weather brake the AFC Dons got back to winning ways today with a solid performance against 4th place Godalming & Guildford, with no Joe Sheerin it was down to new center back Steve Lawson to take over as captain, but once against they did not start that well and with only 6 min's gone G&G took advantage and went one nil up, this time we did not give the usual two goal head start and with 12 min's gone Kevin Cooper took the ball pass the G&G defence to level the score 1-1, just after the goal Sean Daly lent off injured and was replaced by Noal Frankum making his debut at right back.
The AFC Dons started to boss the game with Noal Frankum making some good moves forward, on 22 mins Glyn Shimmel made a great save from a G&G free kick from outside the box, on 44 mins with the clock ticking away Super Kevin got hold of the ball on the left of the box and curled the ball into the top of the goal 2-1 wombles.
The 2nd half was pretty much all the AFC Dons going all out for the third goal, but even with the Westbank in full voice the chances just were not going in, the best chance fell to Coop's who chipped the ball over the head of the keeper, but the keeper managed to turn and get the too the ball, then dropped it again and just picked it up before it went over the line.
With about 80 minutes gone the G&G's no 14 elbowed Gavin Bolger on the bye line and the ref had no choice but to send him off, this is usually the start of a goal feast for the AFC Dons, but G&G came back into the game and had about five or six good chances to level the match & even with Andrew Petty replacing Ali Russell who had been a bit quite for most of the game we could not kill the game off.
Final Result 2-1 to AFC Wimbledon, but it should have been higher, some good performances from the two new guys playing today particularly from Noal Frankum both look like good signings and with Stuart May plus Robbie Burns still to take to the pitch it looks like Terry has put together a very strong squad for the 2nd half of the season.
Also an old Dons favorite was in the the main stand today John Scales.
Team : Glyn Shimell, Keith Ward, Sean Daly, Stave Lawson (capt) , Tony Reading, Lee Sidwell, Lee Passmore, Neil Robson, Ali Russell, Kevin Cooper, Gavin Bolger
Subs : Used Andrew Petty, Noal Frankum Not used Robbie Burns.
Goalscorers : Kevin Cooper (12,44)
Attendance : 2,797

Match Preview
Weather permitted AFC Dons should be back in action against Godalming & Guildford, the last time we meet AFC Dons were the three one away victors, but at a cost as Joe Sheerin went off injuried after landing badly and was out of action for over a month and no thanks the ref the game turned very heated towards the end of the match.
Godalming are currently 4th and on a ten game unbeaten run (9 wins & 1 draw) and are only nine points behind us and with Joe Sheerin one week into his 35 day ban and Andy Sullivan will also be missing after collect 5 yellow cards, this could be the chance for Noal Frankum to show what he can do (if in the team), Danny Oakins is available after being suspended for 7 days (and not missing a game thanks to the weather) there is also the two new defenders Stuart May (LB) and Steve Lawson (CB) to fit into the tea, this could be a tough test for them but from what has been said about them they sound more than capable.

Two in, One out.
Following this weeks signing of Noel Frankum signing from Tooting & Mitcham, Terry Eames has made two more signings to strengthen the AFC Wimbledon squad. Centre-back Steve Lawson joined us from Tooting & Mitcham and left-back Stuart May joined us from Carshalton Athletic.
Steve Lawson is a 30 year old who made 50 appearances last season for Tooting & Mitcham and has started 21 games for them this season. His former clubs include Croydon, Carshalton Athletic and Leatherhead.
Stuart May is a 24 year old who was with Wimbledon FC between the age of 11 and 16 before moving to Carshalton Athletic. Stuart is also a Dons fan and he was one of the 4,142 at Kingsmeadow to see our first home game this season.
Full-back Danny Roberts has been released by AFC Wimbledon.
This was posted on Weird and Wonderful World's guestbook today "I'd just like to say thanks to all of those people that made me feel very welcome at the club. I have made some very good friends & will continue to support & watch AFC play, when I can! During my short stay with the club I have experienced some great times (if brief) which I am positive will not be matched. I take some good memories with me, Kingstonian & Sandhurst away immediately spring to mind as well as a great night standing on the tables & chairs in the Blue Hawaii singing endless AFC songs with Trevor & a number of the other players! I don't feel I have done myself justice at the club, injuries, illness, suspension & loss of form really didn't help my cause. I hope to play for Netherne for a couple of games whilst I decide where to play next, so I'm sure I'll see a few of you in the bar! Thanks Again. Danny Roberts"
Top Man, we at afc-wombles.com wish him all the best for the future and thank him for all his done in his sort time at the club
Also well done to Terry for getting
the boys together before the match against 4th place Guildford after a week
n a half with no football for a practice match against Hayward's Heath which
must have given Terry the chance to look at the new players and try out a few
things, which may help us out while were without Joe Sheerin in the team for
the next month wewon 3-0.

Saturday 4th January 2003
Dons fight back to draw two all against Southall
Once more the Dons had to come back from two nil down, this time only to draw 2-2 against a very dirty Southall team.
Two second half goals on 65 & 78 minutes from Southall had given them the lead and where looking good for all three points, it wasn't until Terry brought on Ali Russell for Joe Sheerin (playing his last game for 35 days from 7/1/2003) and then Kevin Cooper on for Andy Sullivan did the Dons have any real chances on goal and in the 80th minute the Wombles where awarded a penalty for a foul and up stepped Coops to put it away 1-2, with ten minutes left.
With time running out Cooper playing down the wing crossed the ball into a crowded box and Lee Passmore poked the ball home 2-2, with the Dons now pushing for the win Andrew Petty broke free and was just about to enter the box when he was brought down from behind, resulting in a free kick and a sending off for the Southall player, Coops put the ball over the bar, in the 90+ minute the ref and linesman both missed a handball in the box from another Southall player, but as they had also missed a Dons player having his head stamped on will laying on the ground and the punch throw by the lankly Southall forward at least they where consistent.
Team : Glyn Shimmel, Sean Daly, Simon Bassey, Danny Oakins, Tony Reading, Lee Sidwell, Lee Passmore, Gavin Bolger, Joe Sheerin, Andrew Petty, Andy Sullivan
Subs : Kevin Cooper, Ali Russell, Keith Ward
Goalscorers : Kevin Cooper (78 pen), Lee Passmore (88)
Attendance : 2,834
Friday 3 January 2003
Question time.
The Dons Trust Finance and Stadium Working Groups would like to collect some information from AFC Wimbledon supporters by way of a survey, and have decided to amalgamate the two exercises into one at tomorrow's match against Southall at Kingsmeadow.
A number of questionnaires will be handed out, concerning travel habits and the willingness of fans to contribute funds towards a stadium. It would be appreciated if as many supporters as possible would complete these forms and hand them either at the Dons Trust desk in the back bar before the match or to volunteers who will be waiting to collect these in Jack Goodchild Way after the game.
Friday 3 January 2003
